Hi,

My name is Cris, I am 19 years old and have been overweight all my teenage life. I started so many diets and never continued them, I found I had a lot of days where I just said "F*** it" and lost all will-power. I have really low self-confidence, and I am not much of a "go out and chill" person. I have bad asthma that acts up whenever I do cardio excersises so I try to stick to biking when I am in the mood to excersise. Thing is, I don't wanna have to be in the mood to exercise, I just wanna do it, only I start thinking "whats the point".

I currently weigh around 220lbs. My goal is to be 180lbs by the end of summer if that is realistic. What kind of plan should I stick to throughout the summer to reach this goal? How many times a week should I bike? When should I go for a bike ride? How long should I ride for? What kind of a diet should I start?

I really, really wanna lose weight to gain some self confidence, feel better and just be an overal more active and fit person. No teenager should live the way I do, all lazy in my bedroom playing video games.

Thanks,

Hey Chris! Welcome to the forum. It's really good that you've decided to make a plan! And you already set a goal, that's awesome.
Since I'm not a trainer or a nutritionist or anything, I don't wanna tell you how often you should bike or what you ought to eat. I know that getting a hour of exercise every day doesn't hurt, taking a break every two or three days. You could try that and see how your body reacts.
If cardio gets to you (I hate it too, you're not alone) why not try lifting? Muscle burns more calories than fat, and weight lifting can burn a lot of calories if done right. If you're not the type who wants to go near a gym (wouldn't blame you) why not try some simple exercises in your room? That way, you're free to find out what works for you away from all the gym rats. Some small free weights, exercise bands, or even big can of soup are enough to get you started.
Just doing these things for yourself will help increase you self confidence, albeit little by little. You'll know in the back of your head that you've started going good things!

Thanks, ya i'm sure I have some free weights lying around somewhere lol. Publicly excersising is a fear of mine haha.

Oh, I totally understand that fear. That's why I found a women-only gym, and I only go early in the morning, before the sun's up. I still feel like I don't totally know what I'm doing. Lifting in front of other people makes me self-conscious, even if it's a machine I'm comfortable on. I'm just glad there are no beefed-up guys there.
How have you been though, eating and biking-wise?
- Rachel

Well, I recently started my diet and I am waiting for some good weather to go for a nice bike ride. I have been watching what I eat tho, and OH do I like to eat, its tough but I know I can do it.

Hey Chris

Welcome and congratulations on the decision to go ahead and don’t give up this time. When you mentioned you are having hard time to even start thinking about exercising, think about what you like to do. If you like biking great. Lifting weights is a great idea (as Rachel) mentioned. The answer is not to “kill” yourself in long cardio session which would stir up your asthma but focus on short but intense workout.

Nutrition is no.1 concern here. So it’s extremely important what you put in your body. I know you mentioned you love food, that’s great. Do you love to cook as well? If yes that’s awesome as you can make tons of great recipes which will help you to lose fat and gain muscles (I’m sure you wouldn’t mind that).

May I ask? How often and WHAT do you eat? (How many meals/day) How much do you drink (water)? What about stress (cortisol will only “help” to lower your testosterone)….how do you cope with stress? Other than playing video games? I would love to help you out. It’s awesome you join the forum and I guarantee you that if you take it step by step you will create a new life style and your entire life will change. I am talking from my own experience.
