Hi. I have a question

For the past week, I started exercising for at least 20 minutes or sometimes more. I used to live a very sedentary lifestyle. However, I did not lose any pound and in fact gained one or two. I eat just right, and I had cut down on all sodas, chips and sweets. Am I doing it wrong? Or am I just too eager to see improvements?

pls advise. Thanks:)

What are your stats? height/age/weight/gender

Depending on your starting point - one week isn't really enough time to really see a lot of progress -

And just cutting back on sweets and chips and such isn't always enough -it's total calories consumed ina day that make the difference... are you keeping track of what you're eating?

What Mal said....

You're definitely being overly eager, which isn't necessarily bad. But you must manage your expectations. Expecting a change in a week's time is not realistic. Our weights can fluctuate in a 5 lbs range, give or take, each day... whether we're losing or gaining weight.

Simply cleaning up your diet relative to food choices is enough for some to realize progress. It really depends how 'dirty' your diet was previously and how much weight you have to lose.

If that doesn't work, or if it starts out working but gradually stops... you'll have to use more precise methods and start factoring things like calories and macronutrients.

I'm 20 years old, female, and weighs 62kg.

I don't keep track of my food cos I don't know how to estimate it. My mom usually cooks it and I don't know how to do it.

Maybe I am too eager, I might wait for a while. Thanks a lot!

Nice for some! :) Why don't you offer to cook one night a week? The more control you have over what you eat, the easier you'll find the weight loss, I bet.

Have you seen

Again though... if you don't want to get nitty gritty with weighing and calculating (it's not very hard in truth but still....) just give the 'cleaner' eating some more time.

Clean goods tend to be less calorically dense than 'dirty' foods so your new way of eating very well might be less energy dense overall than your old way of eating. As stated above, this might be enough for now.

How tall are you? 62kg is roughly 136lbs -unless you're very petite, you might be very close to your goal weight -which makes it harder.. You do want to make sure your goal weight is r easonable for you....

Talk to your mom about your goals and what you want to achieve and do assist in the cooking... that way you'll learn what ingredients she's using and what you're putting in your body...

What you are experiencing is not uncommon. People who were sedentary and start exercising often experience weight gain due to increasing muscle mass. You can pack a lot of muscle on your legs in a short time. Don't worry though as all that muscle will pay off in helping you burn extra calories every day.

Keep up the exercise. :hurray:

Hi! Thanks for all the advises. I decided not to check my weight everyday and just focus on exercising and eating right. I'd also already started tracking my food, although I'm not yet if I'm doing it right.

By the way, I have another question. Everytime I exercise, my right abdomen ( or right side of my tummy hurts. Is that normal?

Thanks for all the responses you guys gave. Good luck to everyone
