Hi there,

I am new to this.
I started dieting in Febuary and lost 1.5 stones in 3months. I then began working more shifts leaving less time for excersize and got back to my old ways and within 4months I am back to square 1!!

I am currently 12stone (5'4) and my goal is to be 9.9 by christmas and 9.7 by the turn of the new year.

Does this sound realistic?!

Last time round you lost one and a half stone in 3 months of hard work. I would say that realistically you will lose nearer one and a half stone over the next 3 months which pretty much takes you up to the Christmas season. Very few of us actually notch up any weight loss in the couple of weeks over Christmas / New Year. I would be pretty pleased to be 10st7 on 1st Jan if I were you.

On the forum we speak of a good healthy rate of weight loss being 1% of bodyweight per week. Your start weight at 12 stone is 168 pounds. You are basically looking at just over 1.5 pounds per week. Mulptiplying up (and not reducing to account for a lower body weight for later weeks) still gets to under 2 stone lost by 1st Jan - assuming consistent weight lost over Christmas.

If you want an aggressive target you could go for 10 stone by 1st Jan - but sometimes we are encouraged better by a realistically achievable target. The aggressive ones can become obviously unachievable and you end up with no target to be shooting for. I would opt for 10.5 stone maintained into the new year. If you do any better - consider it a bonus.
