At the age of 41 I have been through a few diets and exercise programs in my time!
I personally have tried every diet and exercise regime’ known to woman, man, dog, well you probably have too if you are reading my webpage!
I have had some weight loss successes but mostly those quickly joined the list of failures. I am 5'2" which makes it very challenging to maintain a healthy weight but I managed to struggle through the 80's aerobic classes with jumping spandex clad women…Yikes can you say THERAPY!
I was only 14 years old then, I didn't last with the "Jane Fonda" group and went on with my first Commercial Weight Loss Diet.
Yup, Weight Watchers®...I was only 14 years old…hmm kinda funny no one told me that being so "worried" about my body and how I looked had nothing to do with what I saw in the mirror. I was very ecstatic when the strip of paper they had you pee on turned “pink” or something like that…no it’s not a pregnancy test, it was for testing levels of fat loss in my urine!!
Well, I lost a few pounds the first week and thought I would celebrate with a Cheeseburger!
And so I strapped myself on to the weight teeter totter and rode it like a bronkin bull-rider. And that was even before I entered grade 9!
My next Commercial Weight Loss Diet was "Nutri-system®" which I went on at 17 to lose a few pounds for my upcoming wedding. The Honeymoon wasn't even over and my jeans were too tight...thank goodness it was summer and I could wear a dress.
When I was pregnant with my first daughter, Jennifer, I weighed 107 lbs ; that’s only because I rejoined Nutri-system® at 19 to lose the weight I lost the first time! When I gave birth to her, I weighed 167lbs. My doctor kept telling me it was water weight and to stop stressing over it. Well, that is easier said than done...I ate for my baby and the neighbors baby and so on.
I knew why I was gaining weight but I didn't want to face the truth, heck I didn’t even know what to ask to find the truth.
I had no idea how to lose weight the proper way- through gradual lifestyle changes not a "quick fix" diet that will only make you miserable and intolerable towards family and friends. Trust me I know, both my daughters tease me now "to eat" when I am crabby.
I continued on with my search for the solution to my weight yo-yoing up and down with every new "fad" diet on the market. My family thought the Dr. Atkins diet was pretty awesome because I made breakfast almost every meal of the day...bacon and eggs with butter and melted cheese, cheeseburgers with NO BUN! I thought I found the Holy Grail to Weight Loss, just eat nothing but Protein, says a DOCTOR.
Needless to say the joy ride continued all the way through my 20’s, into my 30’s and even now in my early 40’s. I must say I look back at my teenage pictures and I see a beautiful young girl that looks happy and most likely laughing and joking around and having fun…but even though the pictures are of me and I know how I was feeling at the moment the camera flashed…FAT! But looking now, I don’t see that in the girl like that in the picture.
I have been blessed with a very loving husband of almost 3 years. This is my second marriage and we found each other by chance, and some guiding help from a few loved ones watching over us…thanks Uncles!
Darrell, is the same age as me and has never had any weight issues to date…unless you count the time that he tried weight gain products. Apparently they didn’t work, suppose hitting the gym too would have helped! LOL
He tried doing the ShawnT Insanity program with me and quit after he found out the warm up wasn’t the workout. He was so supportive that he would always stop me from criticising my negative image of myself and often tells me he can’t believe he is married to me, he doesn’t criticize me for my quirky eating habits and endless stream of diets…He thought the HCG drops were some kind of Viagra for woman! They didn’t work for either, BTW!
I completed the P90X twice; that’s 180 days x1.5 hours of working out for a total of 270 hours of exercise in 6 months…minus the 1 day off a week. I enjoyed the program and highly recommend it to anyone that has that kind of time, I had great results and will soon share the before and after pictures on my webpage <link removed>
I enjoyed the results of the P90X Workout which gave me the ability to hold the plough position in the yoga workout till my feet went tingly. I could do 10, then 20 up to 100 pushups even one handed and turning, every day I got stronger but I wasn’t seeing quick results that I expected with my dedication to this exercise program and when I finished, the results slowly dwindled like my will-power.
