Glad to be on here! I'm 15 and I live in the good ole US of A. I have been on and off weight loss for years. One year, I lost more than 40 lbs then gained it back :(. I finally got a good look at myself and asked what I was doing with my life. So, I will be starting to lose weight on Thursday.

I don't know my weight since the scale won't measure me right. I hope that you can give me some pointers and some help when I'm down in the dumps.

Thanks so much :)

Hi and welcome.

What's your goal weight and how will you achieve it?
The easiest way to lose weight and keep motivated is to have exercise and healthy food plan and then stick to the plan.

You're also very young so I would look at losing the weight and changing things like eating habits to maintain it.

Welcome to the forum.

I would certainly chat to your parents and family doctor about how much weight it would be healthy for you to lose... It may be worth asking whether there are any weight loss support groups that you could join that are geared towards teenagers... People under a certain age are still growing so there is sometimes slightly different advice appropriate to them... Sometimes it is appropriate for people to try to maintain their weight as the grow into it.

Having said that - it is always good to eat healthy food (and to limit portion sizes so that you are not having big portions)... This is true for all of us - and not doing this is often at the heart of us getting big. Trying not to eat junk food is a good idea for us all too.

It is also good to be active. Try to find a form of exercise that you enjoy and do it regularly. Even simple things like walking can really help you to lose a lot of weight. It was the main exercise that I used when I was very big.

Its a shame that you havent got a scale that you can use to monitor your weight. If you discussed your aims with your parents - maybe they could buy some scales that you could use. It can be really motivating to see the numbers get smaller... A tape measure can be used and indeed the way that your clothes fit you can be motivating too... It can be great to see clothes that were very tight as they get looser and looser... It is wonderful when you cannot wear them any more because they are far too big...

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends here

Good luck with your project.
