I'm Lorraine and I just registered. I'm looking for inspiration and hope because this whole losing weight thing got a whole lot harder once I hit 30! Ultimately, I would love to inspire and give hope to others traveling the same weight loss path. I've got a long way to go and don't expect any miracles to happen...I've given myself a year to lose a little less than 100 lbs. I'm going for the whole "lifestyle" change and hope that slow and steady will win this race.

I'm an emotional eater...I do so when I'm happy, sad, nervous, excited...I run the gamut. I work in a library, so I sit around all day applying my BRAIN but never my BOD. I'm not a big fan of exercise, however I do love taking walks and for whatever reason, am a champion at inclines.

I never drink cokes or anything with caffeine, always drink water (mostly because I'm super into clear skin), but loooove fast food and sweets. I'm trying remedy that, but it's so hard after being raised on happy meals and pizza for breakfast and eating salad only if it's drenched in dressing and has a crouton for every bite!

I'm still figuring this site out, so bear with me! Hope to interact with you soon!

welcome to the boards. I'm in somewhat of the same boat as you. Its rough as hell, at least for me, being the creature of habit that I am. I ended up outlining 8 main things I can do to improve my eating plan and I'm implementing one new one each week over the next 2 months. Same with exercise.

Gracias!

What are your "8 things"? Do you have them posted somewhere?

And I imagine we'll have our good days and bad...creature of habit indeed! I just need to figure out a way to remove the mental block that makes bad habits soooo fun, and good habits so difficult and un-fun.

Oh yeah, if you look down in the journals base, mine is in there. I think on page 2 of the journal proper.

mostly, its
cut out sodas
substitute more chicken & fish for red meat
eat more veggies
eat breakfast
etc... some are broken up into multi week stages, like veggies for snacks. but you'll get the idea.

the strange part, doing this so far, the 'bad' habits haven't been hard breaking, and some have just started falling away. ok, for real, I can plow through a bag of soft batch or subway cookies in no time. now, I really don't like the taste. subway tastes like burnt sugar once I got off all teh refined sugars and sodas, etc.

ow, I also have a secondary main personal restriction. i pretty much refuse absolutely to eat any food labeled 'diet' that has all kinds of substitutes and chemicals in it to make it low calorie. Now, I use egg beaters, better than eggs, etc for my eggs, but that's pretty much all real egg with some coloring and flavoring, but things like splenda, nutrasweet, etc.. oh hell no..

thanks for the info...lifestyle changes are usually the simplest to perform, yet the hardest to implement! if that made any sense.

and I'm 100% with you on the DENIAL of fake sugars. I'm the same way with butter, in moderation.

Thanks for your reply...you sound like you are on the ball! Your story is inspirational! :hurray: I think the most important thing is to keep moving...and dancing is a most excellent way to accomplish that! entertaining your granddaughters at the same time is icing on the cake.

I look forward to hearing all about your progress in the coming months :)
