Greetings!
I'm just a newbie around here, but not a newbie when it comes to weight issues. I've battled my weight all trough my life, 24 years at the minute. Judging this forum by few looks here and there, I've came to the conclusion that this website could've been a great source of inspiration at the first steps of my journey trying to tackle my weight issues. I started my current journey weighing at a whopping 345 lb. This was back in summer of 2005 and until december 2006 I didn't really make too much progress to be honest - I weighed 319 lb then. At that point I really dedicated myself to a new lifestyle and changing all the bad habits I possessed. I did my research trying to figure out all the stuff about good eating habits, excercising and rest. I read about carbs, protein, fats, fibres etc. I tried to absorb all the stuff in and then create a plan what would work for me. When I'm now typing this story I'm 207 lb so I've been able to shed roughly 140 lb's from the "worst times".
I applaud everyone who really dedicates themselves to a change. I'm tired of hearing old stories of 'it starts tomorrow'. I've heard them from few folks in my family who are also over weight - should I mention that nobody has really made any progress in 10 years. Mostly I've always been disappointed in myself more than any other, because I've committed the same mistake of saying everything will be allright and then stuffing yet another slice of pizza into my mouth.
I'm not doing this to get pats on the back or people saying well done buddy - though I appreciate it but it's not the point. I'm only responsible for myself and no-one else can suddenly just say enough is enough and by snapping their fingers lose cool 50lb's from my waiste. It doesn't work like that. It's you who makes the change, but it's also you who can then claim the rewards. I signed in because I believe I can give support to others and maybe share some insight how I've made my progress. I'm also eager to get used to the place and learn from others and continue absorbing new stuff in to make my journey better.
I'm a great believer in working hard and then seeing the progress. When I realised what I would have to do to reach my goals the first thought was wow that's a lot of work. But then again, you can just sit on your butt and let it go or you can make the commitments and get your head down, work hard and see the results. It sounds easy, but in reality it kinda is! I remember the times when it all sounded like same old talk from people who looked amazing yet looking someone I could never be like. That thought always put me down and I didn't try to make my dreams true because it seemed like something that was unreachable. Now I know it isn't. I'm not saying I'm alreaydy there - not by a long shot -, but I'm getting there step by step. I wish all the best for people around the world trying to get fit for different reasons.
