I sincerely don't want to be rude.... at all. Nor do I want to chase you off, so please don't take this the wrong way.

You went on to that television show as an average, unfit person.... right?

And on the show, which I did not see of course, over here in the states.... but you went on to that show and they helped you lose weight.

What qualifies you to be a professional now?

The above question is the part I am fearing you will take as an insult. I promise, it's not. It is a serious question. Maybe after you lost the weight, congrats btw, you went on to fall in love with this lifestyle so much that you went out and got certified or obtained schooling?

Believe me, I understand how being a role model is great for someone who comes off one of the biggest loser shows with success. However, I am not too sure it qualifies them to act as a professional.

You learned the basics of weight-loss on the show. But from what I saw on the U.S. show... it didn't qualify anyone to give advice.

Would love to hear from you. :)

Thanks for taking the time, and again, glad to have you here.

I never saw the show (or heard about it... where have I been?!) But just wanted to say how well you've done. I don't think you're claiming to be an expert at all, just offering your personal experience and advice to others. Good on you! x

I was basing the assumption from the website and the idea that she makes money off of this industry. But hey, what do I know.

The diet and fitness industry is one huge money-making industry. I don't think Jodie's doing anything different to all the other people releasing fitness dvd's/running health clubs...

Wow, it looks like you and I are going to have a lot of beef around these parts. I am fine with that though, assuming you are able to keep it civil. I am.

Welcome to the forum by the way, Scamp.

With regards to the fitness industry, I think you will learn quickly around here that I will call out anyone who acts with the intent of being an authority in this industry without any qualification or experience.

It was nothing against the OP. For all I know, she is qualified to help. But that is what I wanted to learn about her.

Do I like the condition the fitness industry is in? Certainly not. Does that make it right that ANY Joe Schmoe can enter the industry and be an authority?

Sorry, I disagree with you. No, it doesn't.

it's one thing to release a video - it's against house rules to advertise it here - unless she's been given permission which she hasn't.

Fair enough maleficient, surely you can forgive a newb for forgetting the house rules though? :)

Steve maybe we do see things differently but that doesn't mean I don't respect your opinon (and even agree with you on many levels). I didn't say it was right or wrong, the state of the fitness industry, just commented on the scale of it.

HI there,

everyne want to share there views steve, but i have to admit i was really quite offended, i can say without any shadow of a doubt i am qualifieed in fact i have taken qualifcation to become a personal trainer. But what i have gained is more than you can gain sat in a class reading about how to tell people to lose weight and how to exercise properly., I can share from expereince which is more valuble than anything, It took me 6 months to shed 122 pounds.

What i dont understand is when you said i was not really unfit? and not that big i weighed in at my heaviest when was 21 stone which is 291 pound, and yes i was really unfit, i am not trying to cash in, i am trying to share my exerience along side with the woman angie dowds who helped me believe i could do it, i want people to feel as happy as i do now, which money cant buy you health and happiness. I wish i could do it for free buujt i cant live on air, but i want to dedicate my life to heping outhers reach there goals. I have not rushed and brought out a dvd to cash in, i have given lots of free advice to people who email me, i have started up a charity to help over weight kids, so all in all steve yes i am offeneded but i wont blame you for your views, just maybe instead of trying to knock me down you could ask is there anything i could do to help or what can you do to make a difference in the world. a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. i am for the rest of my days going to make people take that first step.. and as for the house we had help for the first ten weeks then we were left to our own we never had any help out of the house. jjst to clear things for people who read the message. kindest regards Jodie

That's too bad you were offended.

Might want to get used to that in this industry. It's quite the amazing thing.

People actually CARE about what measures you took to ensure that YOU are competent in what you are doing once they decide to place their trust in your hands. They might even ask for some reference.

Gasp, can you believe that they have the audacity!?

You know it wasn't meant in an offensive way, but if you choose to take it that way.... there isn't much I can do about it. I really do look forward to seeing you around the forum and learning from your impressive background.

And just to comment directly to what you wrote:

I do agree with you, most certifications are worth crap. And even if you have a great one and/or a top-notch education.... it's worth crap UNLESS you've learned to apply it correctly. You see, education is worthless unless you know how to apply it to broad spectrums of people in this industry. So, you are right.... experience becomes an important aspect with regards to being a professional in this industry. However, IMO, it's not expererience that you've had personally, with your body that counts the most. Rather, it's your experience applying what you know to various types of people and being able to figure out the "path of least resistance" for an individual.

What i dont understand is when you said i was not really unfit? and not that big i weighed in at my heaviest when was 21 stone which is 291 pound, and yes i was really unfit,

I never said you were NOT unfit. I said you WERE. Try reading it again. :)

i am not trying to cash in, i am trying to share my exerience along side with the woman angie dowds who helped me believe i could do it, i want people to feel as happy as i do now, which money cant buy you health and happiness.

I can completely understand this. Helping someone realize that this IS possible and helping them make this transition, I believe, is the most rewarding job in the world. And I am certainly not saying you don't have the right to be doing this.... as you seem to be defending against.

Breath. Breath.

Take some deep breaths.

I wasn't trying to knock you down. If I were, I would have tested your intelligence. Tried to make you look bad. Not my intentions, in the least. I was simply curious as I've watched the US version of biggest loser and I was thinking then.... "I wonder if any of these contestants will actually make money off of the fitness industry after this show?" I was curious due to the same questions I asked you in my first post.

And lo and behold.... here you popped into the site.

BUT....

Asking for qualifications does not = putting someone down. Sorry.

thanks toothless look orward to chatting as well

look forward to chatting here, god steve how long did that take you to reply, lol. i dont offend easy but i hope you can understand from the post you made how i felt i had to defend myself, and with the journey of weight loss and to the hundred of people i have emailed me there journeys are all very much the same and thats where someone who can talk from experience can help its as much about the mental side of is as well as the diet and exercise and someone who has been there and knows what its feels like really can relate and help a person through that. And what i dont understand is when you said that i should get used to being offended, through all this i have found a strenth i never thought i had, and no matter what I will never be used to being offended, people make choices in life, and you can pick and choose who your friends are and who you deal with, i believe if your a good hearted person you dont have people like that in your life. I do have strong views and i will always go on and help people lose weight. hugs jodie x

Roughly 2 minutes.

i dont offend easy but i hope you can understand from the post you made how i felt i had to defend myself

No, again, I don't understand. Knowing what I know now, I would still ask the same questions. I would expect anyone to ask me those same questions too, especialy being new to a place such as this.

Those types of questions are a product of the condition and atmosphere of the fitness industry.... where pretty much ANYONE can proclaim themselves as "professional."

It's sad when a six-pack or 100 lb loss replaces education and knowledge. Sure, people who have walked the walk know the human body to a certain extent.... but not nearly enough to proclaim "professionalism."

Those are my opinions of course.... but it is rare that I am proved wrong with regards to this topic.

And what i dont understand is when you said that i should get used to being offended,

LOL. You like to twist words. No?

I said you should get used to being questioned in this regards, ESPECIALLY considering the nature of your entry into this biz. More so, any "professional" in this industry should get used to being questioned regarding their qualifications due to the nature of this industry.

And being questioned should NOT = being offended

through all this i have found a strenth i never thought i had, and no matter what I will never be used to being offended, people make choices in life, and you can pick and choose who your friends are and who you deal with, i believe if your a good hearted person you dont have people like that in your life.

Very confused, sorry.

From what I can see, you were not offended in this thread. If you hold yourself out as a professional, you darn well better expect people to make inquiries about your qualifications, PERIOD.

Again, I would ask you again those same questions in my original post if I were to do this all over again. I care very deeply for many of the people here on this forum. I have many friends here whom I've spent a great deal of time getting to know. The last thing I want is some "guru" or "expert" who is NOT qualified coming on here slinging non-sense.

I am not saying that is what you were doing. But my questions were the products of my above statements in the previous paragraph.

If that doesn't make sense to you..... I don't know what else to say and this topic should simply be dropped.

I do have strong views and i will always go on and help people lose weight. hugs jodie x

Strong views/opinions are good. I think you will find that I, too, have very strong views as evident by this thread.

hi steve

look i think this is going to go on forever, personally i dont like the tone you use with me, i wish you all the best in your career and future but i do feel even though you say you are not, i feel you have an offensive nature towards me for some reason. i would like to ask you to leave me alone as i dont wish to continue in any conversation with you, but if anyone would like to ask me any questions or just need someon to talk to who has been there get in touch

best wishes jodie x

Hi Jodie,
What was your motivation to lose weight? Also what exercise did you do and what do you still do? I've started running and find it very hard! I also do yoga which is lovely but I think I need to stick with the running too!

All the best x

Too funny. There is an ignore list. Put me on it. If not, expect to see me around. This is a PUBLIC forum.

And that's impressive. You can actually hear my tone through typed words. Truly amazing.

why should i have to block someone

steve take all the time you wish, because truth i do find it sad your comments and i am sure people who read them will do the same, i have asked you to not reply which you have ignored, your right it is a public place, i am new to all this and have to say everyone has been great here, its just a shame you have gone out of your way to be rude. look take care and please dont waste anymore of your time in talking to me, i am sure there are lots of other people on here you can talk to, i would just like to make a request that you leave me be, and if anyone on here knows steve could you possibly have a word with him, not being funny steve i am here just to pffer advice and not to get treated unfairly by you. so please leave me alone

kind regards Jodie
