Hi all, another newbie here

Hi there, Lee here from over in the UK.

I've just started training again after a 13 year break in which I piled on the weight and used every excuse in the book not to start training again.

I'm 33 and weigh in at a hefty 276lbs and am 6' tall. I don't know the percentage of bodyfat yet - I'm having some tests done on Friday of this week, but my BMI is around 37.

I'm aiming first of all to lose a lot of excess weight and body fat so for the time being I am concentrating on cardio as opposed to weight training, although there will be some weights involved in my schedule.

My short term goal is to reduce my bodyweight to a maximum of 200lbs and am aiming to do this within 6 months, meaning I need to lose approx 3lbs per week which is not unachievable, however as long as I maintain a minimum of 2lbs per week I will be happy.

From that point I will be looking to build mass, but muscle mass instead of fat :)

Anyhow, just a short introduction so expect to see me around from time to time.

Lee

Hi Lee

It's good to see more people from the UK on here :D

With regards to your goals, I think you might be trying to lose weight a bit too fast. 2lbs per week should be more of a maximum than minimum, if you're losing more than that then you'll probably be losing muscle as well as fat and that'll make it harder to keep the weight off in the long term

You need to mix a calorie deficit with a full body workout routine about 3-4 days a week to lose weight and minimise muscle loss. Make sure you read the weight training 101 and nutritional stickies to help you with that.

Good luck

Hi Lee,
Seems we have a bit in common, I'm new here too. and also from the UK and like you I am 6.0 and in my 30's and piled on weight having let go for a long time but just to give you some encouragement just over 4 months ago I was 273lbs and am now 229lbs I wont lie its hard work but I'm loving it I've got that last 29lbs to get rid off which is proving very difficult Ive posted another thread in the weightloss forum with my program and diet as I have not lost anything on the scales in almost 4 weeks but I'm not giving in I feel great and my wife wont leave me alone! Good luck! Dont overdo it and injure yourself just keep thinking about your goal and change your life without becoming obsessed. You can do it!

Thanks guys.

With regards to my goals. I only actually started training at the weekend so at the moment I am doing an hour of cardio a day to get myself back into the swing of things.

I know I will lose weight faster to start with because I have an awful lot to lose, but also because up until a few days ago my diet was terrible so even by eating healthier as I am doing now I will lose weight. With that added to the cardio workouts I am doing I know that To start with I will lose quite a bit more than the 2lb recommended.

The test will come when I hit the plateau and that is when I am anticipating having to train properly with a calorie controlled diet and planned workouts incorporating weights as well as cardio.

Still, I spent almost all of yesterday reading these forums (work? I'll get to that tomorrow) and will probably do the same today, so I am still learning.
