hey guys,

my name is gaurav varsani. i am from india. i weigh around 218lbs. my doc told me to lose atleast 50 lbs according to my height n age. my bmi is around 34 :( . anyway i finally joined a gym to lose as much as i can. i wanted to know few things though. i read at few sites that whey protein is helpful in losing weight and building muscles. i wanted to know if its advisable to take it rite now while m 218lbs or maybe later once i lose few pounds.

If you are focusing on weight loss then I personally wouldn't suggest it because it still calories. It's still food and it doesn't really change the problems we have being overweight.

A better direction is a food diary for a week so you can see just how much you really are eating.
 
Seriously, food diaries reveal things that you may not have noticed before. You will truly see that calories could add up very quickly.
For some people, picture diaries are great for motivation too. ^_^ Take a pic every couple of months or so and watch your progress.
