So I've been lurking for a couple of weeks now, but I guess I should go ahead and introduce myself. My name's Cory. I'm 22, and I just graduated college in Lynchburg, VA. I've been the fat guy most of my life, but the last couple of years have gotten a bit worse. Pretty much all of my friends graduated last year, so I spent most of my free time over the last year with my girlfriend.
Well, about 3 weeks ago, after 2 and a half years, she broke up with me. There were other issues, but I know that the main reason was she was fed up with empty promises of me getting in shape, and her worry about my health was taking a toll on her emotionally. She stuck with me through a bout with sleep apnea, a diabetes scare, and lots of secret eating and lying about going to the gym. Unfortunately, it took losing her to give me the slap in the face I needed to deal with this. I'm doing it for real this time. I have nothing to lose, and so much to gain. It's time to take a step for me.
Here is a picture of me from super bowl 07. I've fluctuated small amounts since then, but I was pretty much the same when I started this:
That was my pretty lady next to me. Well, now she's gone and I'm pretty much all alone. My degree is in video production, so I'm going to move to NY or LA to get work eventually, but I want to dedicate some time to dealing with my health issues first. May 2, the day I bought a scale, I was 335. I'm weighing in every Friday, and taking a picture of myself on the first of every month. Eventually I'll post some of those, but I'm taking them in my underwear and honestly I'm just too embarrassed by how disgusting they are to post it yet. When I weighed in yesterday, I was 323. My goal right now is 250 by the end of the year.
I've been following a fairly steady diet so far, an egg white omelette in the morning with mushrooms and a slice of cheese, some wheat thins and hummus for lunch, and a 6-inch turkey sub with no cheese from Subway for dinner. I've been walking between 3 and 6 miles every day, and as soon as I get my student account issues worked out, I'm going to replace that with an hour on the elliptical at the campus gym. I figure this would be a good place to get some support.
Well, enough prattling on. Just saying hi.
