Hello!....Im Ryan!
well.....im 19 years old...about 6"5-6"6 and about 260 pounds.....and looking to lose some weight....i wouldnt mind losing maybe about.....30-40 pounds or so.....
First thing is.....I want to start riding my bike to lose the weight....
a "BMX" actually...(dont worry i wont crush it....i right it often....but out of enjoyment...lol) anyways....its got a low gearing....which means i pedal more to gain speed.....would this HELP in my weight loss?....having to move my legs more.....ALSO would it help to stand when pedalling....or is it the same standing/sitting?...

aswell.....would it help if i weight lifted a little maybe after riding?....like....lifting weights for my biceps/triceps......not for my chest (i dont have a spotter).....would it be worth even doing that.....or is that a waste of time....and i wouldnt burn many cals from that...

ALSO.....i was wondering how much calories i'd lose riding my bmx.....if i did it for...lets say....30-45 minutes...or so....how many cal's would i burn...

I also know about calorie intake and stuff.....i read up on all that....

ANYWAYS.....i hope to meet alot of people on here....

thanks ahead of time!....

Welcome to the boards Ryan

Riding the BMX is fine - how many calories? Depends on the intensity of the workout, I wouldn't like to guess. The important thing is to get active, and if BMX is the thing that scratches your itch then do it! A lot of people attack their weight by performing exercise routines that they don't enjoy and end up hating - finding something that you enjoy and can keep going long term is great!

As for the weights (Warning, I am NOT an expert) - in the absence of any better advice, I believe that the consensus is that for best results, you should either perform weight lifting and cardio on separate days, or if you really want to do both in one day, then perform the cardio after weight training. Don't think that you can only train your arms. For best results, you should train your entire body including the major muscle groups. I bench press in a gym without a spotter, and I do it either with dumbbells or on a Smith machine. I also squat and deadlift, etc. Don't forget chin ups / pull ups too - they'll exercise your back and shoulder muscles as well as your arms ... and what about press ups for that chest?

Will you burn calories from weight training? Yes, any activity will - just find out what activities suit you! The point of weight training is that it will condition your body for greater fitness.

Good luck on the journey Ryan.

Hi Mc Donkey,

I do cycling every weekend as part of my exercise. I am cycling with mountain bike and I usually cycling about 30-35km. Normally I will spent about 1 to 2 hour on that. It depand on the track. Yes I will feel muscle paint at my leg and arm. That means the leg and arm get high impact when I do cycling compare to other part. So what I can conclude here cycling only is not enought to get better excersice.(Note: that this is what I feel...not sure about others)

I have also started doing some biking. I did my first 35 mile trip in 3 hours. If you have lots of hills and inclines, you will burn more calories.:jump:
I wish you luck:rotflmao:
