Ive added some questions at the bottom....

I'm 23 years old from Manchester, UK and have just begun a major major diet and healthy eating regime as well as doing loads of exercise and trying to bodybuild. I used to be really fit, but my job kind of ruined things as I work 4 on 4 off, so my regular weekly plan went to pot and I gave up...

I'm 5"10 and I did weigh just under 16 stone. I'm very well built and stocky, but am overweight. Since a week before Xmas i have lost weight and now weigh 14 stone 11. So lost around a stone. This is through doing loads of exercise and dieting.

MY FOOD / DRINK:
At the moment, all I'm eating is healthy stuff... Plenty of fruit, veg, lots of salad, vegetable soup and pasta and jaket potatoes (for the weight training), chicken. I dont like fish just to let you know.

Basically, i think i might be doing this wrong, but im after loosing the weight and toning up all in one, rather than concentrating on getting rid of the weight, then toning up.

Im having about 2 - 3 cups of coffee a day (no sugar) and the rest is just water only.

EXERCISE:
I'm running between 4 miles a day (thats a lot for me) and trying to cycle for just 2 miles. This is my cardio. This is done everyday. Everyday i am also doing 100 stomach exercises on an abs roller slide. Every other day I work out on the punchbag for 20-30 minutes. This is on the opposite days to when i weight train. I am currently doing this just every other day. After i have trained i have a protein shake.

WORK
I work in security and work 4 on 4 off... on my days off its the above work, on my days in its the above work plus walking around and using plenty of stairs, walking myabe 10 miles a day.

TABLETS
Im taking Maximuscle Thermobol for helping me slim as i weight train. Im also using Body Fortress Natural Amino 1000 to help and also Holland and Barretts Ultra KLB6 again for the same thing as i train. Im taking some Super One Holland and Barretts Multivitimins too, to give me what i need whilst i diet.

This is what im doing at the moment basically - Has anyone got any advice of how i can loose the belly a bit better? Its drastically going down, but i generally have no idea except the old saying of eat healthy and exercise...

I have a few questions and would be immensely greatful for any advice...

- Can you advise me if there is anything im doing wrong?
- Should i be mixing tablets and using more than one brand? Is this good or bad
- Am i eating the right foods?
- What can speed things up in my routine?
- Are the toning pads for your abs any good? I'll be doing all this but maybe that can help?

Much appreciated... Many Thanks.

Hi James

Are you in love? It seems you want to go from fat to fit in no time...

For a healthy and lasting weight loss, you shouldn't lose more than one stone per six weeks on average.

You are young, so your body might cope, but normally your trainer would tell you to alternate your training, so you only do the same muscles every other day - like running one day, cycling the next etc.
You should also start slowly over several weeks to avoid problems - it might take a little longer, but if you stress your body too much, you might need to totally pause training for months - that's worse.

I know it's a girl thing, but you should also measure yourself (arms, legs, hips, waist, chest etc), because with all your training, you will convert fat into muscles. The muscles weigh more than fat, so even if your weight doesn't decline as fast as you might like, you will look (and measure) much smaller.

As for tablets, you should ask your doctor - I would drop them all...

With all the training you must have proteins - chicken is fine, and I wouldn't worry about eating beef and pork as well, as long as we are talking "real" lean meat - no sausages and meatballs etc. If money is not a problem, the protein shakes are fine, but a cheaper solution would be to add a few egg whites to your food.

Hope some of this helps you towards your goal...

Thanks for your reply. No im not in love, single and alwasy have been :) There just comes a time when you say enoughs enough. Im stocky like i said so ive always hidden the excess fat well, but i go away on trips a lot and when i look at the pictures it dissapoints me to see how i am and how i used to be.

Im big into martial arts and my brother owns his own club, he, my other brother and dad and i are all seriously training now, its great that we are all inspiring each other. My older brother had toned up really quickly. I know its a slow process and because i only majorly started 3 - 4 weks ago i thought i might be best to see if im going the right way right from the start. Moneys no issue and i dont like eggs otherwise i would do that. Im really enjoying training at the moment andam looking towards being my optimum weight / size by around april...

Is there any other tips whilst i train? Are them toning machines any good? I wouldnt mind something whilst im not doing anything, although i suppose this should be a time for relaxing?

James
