Hi
Well, im 19. I have been trying to lose weight for years, probably about 6. I always achieve about 5-10kg and then all of a sudden my modivation disappears and i gain it back and then some. Does anyone have any tips on how i can keep my motivation up?
I really need some help

Hi Mel.

Motivation is a tricky thing - the thing is that no one can be motivated to do something all the time. It's just not humanly possible. So really rather than being motivated, you hve to be COMMITTED. There's such a difference between the two mindsets.

Motivation relies on feeling good about something in order to do it. COMMITTMENT means you do it whether you are feeling all happy about it or not.

The analogy I like to use is this one: there are things we do in our lives every day that we might not enjoy or be "motivated" about ... but we do them. Things like get up in the morning to go to work. Clean the toilets. Fold laundry. Pay bills. Take care of the kids, if you have them. Sure, some mornings you get up and you're really motivated and ready to take on the world. But some mornings you aren't. You wake up and don't feel good, or had a sleepless night, or just feel grumpy for some reason. But you still get up and go to work and pay your bills and wash the dishes and care for the kids - not because you're motivated. You do it because it's what you have to do as an adult to live your life. You're committed to these things.

That's how I try to look at eating right and exercising. I don't have to be all happy/skippy/motivated to do it. I just have to do it.

Hope that helps give you a bit of a different perspective! :)
