well i'm not new here but i don't think i have ever introduced myself so i thought i would.
well currently i'm 5ft5 and 163lbs(used t be 190lbs)so i decided that i should maybe try to lose some weight and get fit.my problem is that i'm on 14years old and still at school two of my mates are quite tubby to so thay descided to have ago aswell but also do horse riding which means that apart from horse riding and two 30min pe sessions a week i dont get much exercise.i know that many people say that children my age shouldn't try to lose weight becsuse they are still growing and the risk of eating diorders.but i know what types of food i need to eat and what types to avoid and i dont think anything would make me starve myself.my goal weight is about 110lbs do you think this is a sensible weigth?i was wondering if anybody had any tips? x becky

Hi Becky, I don't think we've met yet :)

I haven't been able to find any information on what would be an "ideal" weight for you as a teenager (all the ideal weight charts you find on the internet are geared towards adults), but to me it looks as if you are a bit overweight. (I am 5ft2, so a few inches shorter than you, and I think I weighed around 115lb at your age. I've put on all my weight since! So maybe you should be aiming for somewhere between 120 - 130lb.)

I don't think there's any problem with losing weight at your age, as long as you're sensible and try to eat a healthy diet that you can continue with once you reach your target weight. And, like you said, that you don't starve yourself.

As far as exercise goes, since you go horse riding, is there any chance that you'd be able to help out a bit at the stables where you ride? (In my experience, most stables are only too keen to get some free help!) Grooming horses, mucking out stables, sweeping the yard, etc are all great forms of exercise and would really help you to get fitter and lose some of the extra weight.
