Hey guys!

I'm very new to this forum (as in just now joined new) and am hoping that it will keep me inspired and energized on my weight loss journey. I am 21 years old, 5 foot 3 inches tall (or so I like to convince myself ;) ) and currently 175 lbs. When I started to watch my calorie intake a few days ago, I was at 178 so I've already lost a few pounds.

However, I'm new to this whole fitness shpeel so I'd like some advice, if that's okay. I've currently been limiting myself to about 1350 or less calories per day (though never dipping under 1200). I've been drinking at least 64 oz of water a day and making sure I get lots of lean protein, whole grains and good fiber, and fruits and veggies every day. I'm not going to lie, I'm a chocoholic, and have to have a few, meaning 3 or so, pieces of dove promises (35 calories each, I've convinced myself that I could be doing worse, haha) a day. I'm trying to wean myself off of them and save them for bi-weekly treats or so.

I've bought a stationary exercise bicycle a few days ago and have been riding it for around 3 hours daily, split up into segments. I try to do at least one hour of moderate to vigorous (13-16 mph) riding with 2 lb dumbbells in each hand and trying to work my shoulders/arms/core. The rest of the time is lighter (10-12.5 mph) without the weights for about 2 hours. I tend to like this because I don't feel so lazy while I watch TV.

I'm also on Depo Provera, which I've heard increases cravings and appetite (can confirm from personal experience, ugh) but I'm getting it under control.

I know it won't be a fast process, and I know I'll slip up every once and a while, but it's okay; It's natural. It'll just give me an excuse to work a little harder in the long run.

What do you think?

AI think you will be suprised at how quickly it will come off :)
Be careful not to deprive yourself too much. Good luck, I can't wait until I am one seventy btw so you aren't too bad off lol.

I know, But here's the thing: In high school, I was doing dance 5 days a week, and was pretty fit. After I quit dance, I ballooned up to 185 or even high pretty dang fast. Then... I met my fiance, and everything changed. I was so lovesick I couldn't eat anything and had so much energy. I lost weight really quickly, and eventually went down to about 150 lbs at my lowest. Part of this I also attribute to the birth control pills I was on at the time, which suppressed my appetite. After I got off the pill because I couldn't afford it anymore, I gained 10-15 pounds in 3 or 4 months. Then, after getting the shot (I'm on my third now) I was up to 178 lbs. However, I've been watching what I eat carefully and am now working out with my new bike. I'm already down 3 or 4 lbs.

I did a bit of research today and am a bit confused, though. Am I supposed to count my BMR (1600 calories base rate times 1.2 for sedentary because I am when I'm not working out) and add it to what I've worked off through exercise? Because I know then I'd be working off more than I've consumed in a day and that's just not healthy.

Does anyone know the answer to this?

Its not unhealthy, the way you lose weight is you burn more calories then you take in. :) your on the right track, keep up the good work

Yeah, but I've heard you're not supposed to have over a 1,000 calorie deficit or else it might put your body into starvation mode which slows metabolism... which is kind of counter-productive. I'm currently over that deficit with my BMR at 1900 and working off at least 900 calories a day, when I'm only consuming under 1400. That's creating about a 1400 calorie deficit.

Oh well, maybe I'll lose weight faster, then, because I'm honestly completely satisfied and not usually hungry after 1400 calories because I've been spacing my meals out and eating the correct things.

Maybe it means I'm allowed to have a glass of wine every once and a while ;)
