Hey Guys :)

Hi, my name is Andy and i'm from Chesterfield in the UK, (the depressing part:( )after moving in with my girlfriend and living the lifestyle of a lazy bum at the age of 17 i went from about 190lbs to about 245lbs in under 7 months and then over the next 5 years went up to my current weight of about 260lbs and at 5'8" (173cm) it isn't good, the relationship broke up recently and i went through the suicidal thoughts and binge drinking (the better part :) ) but now i'm coming to a crossroads of either thrive or survive and i chose to thrive, i'm trying to improve myself mentally (i have an appointment with a therapist) and physically (purely for myself and my two kids)

I realise this will take hard work and dedication and i have plenty of time and in fairness the reason i put on so much weight was because i was depressed and would eat loads of bread and just junk food basically, i have no real craving for food so straying off a regime isnt going to be difficult, i like to drink though (socially, going to clubs not a home drinker), but im cutting it back to 1 night a week of getting drunk, (which i know is bad but lets be realistic here), i'm a non-smoker and avoid recreational drugs

So any advice i can get will be greatly appreciated, im living on my own now but have a good network of positive friends and see my kids regularly, i'm basically a student but have most days free, i'm also vegetarian and now (since the breakup) ive been living off pasta, quorn and bread and tomatoes ive definitely lost a little weight but ive also been drinking every other night which hasnt helped

My goal is to lose weight but gain some muscle aswell, i will eventually join a gym but i'd prefer to train at home to start off with and get some weight off first

So anyway Hi and thanks for letting me in :)

Hi Andy,
Welcome to the WLF!

Sometimes taking the first step in getting control of our lives is the hardest step - and you've made it :) That's a GOOD thing!

If you haven't already done so, you might check out or both are sites for tracking calories, nutrition and fitness. Weightloss is more an issue of caloric managment then anything else.

Taking small steps to change the lifestyle that caused you to gain weight in the first place will be what helps you not only take the weight off but keep it off!

Just know that you can do this - one day at a time!

Again, welcome to the WLF and I look forward to getting to know you!

Thanks for the kind welcome :) i will definitely take a look at those links, i really feel a bright future for myself, ive been to the lowest of the low so the only way is up! :)
