Hey Everyone

Hey everyone,

I'm a 20 year old university student from the UK, and I've been seriously trying to lose weight since late February.

I'm currently 148lbs, and I've lost 7 so far. I was always quite skinny, until I turned 16, got bullied and comfort ate. Then I went up a dress size. After that, I basically got myself into an emotionally abusive relationship and developed polycystic ovaries, both contributing to extra weight gain.

I find it difficult to be at university where there are so many very skinny girls who get all of the attention. I'm trying to get my BMI back to being healthy, so that I can feel better about my self, especially while I'm there.

Anyway, looking forward to getting to know you all and swapping stories!

Any advice as to where I should head first?

Hey there-

Welcome to the forum! Where in the UK are you from? I just finished my MA in Leeds and I'm getting married and moving to Wales in the fall.

Anyhow, regarding your questions, first of all, how tall are you, as 148 pounds is not heavy at all. And you're right, at university there always seems to be super stick-thin girls who get loads of attention. But without sounding stereotypical, do know that not all of these girls are super thin as a result of a healthy diet. Take it from a girl with a decade-long eating disorder, just because you are thin DOES NOT mean you are happy. And body image/shape is entirely individualized. You can't compare yourself to anyone else as we are all built differently!

But putting such things aside, what is your diet/eating plan like? And your fitness? You can check out my thread for further information but its mainly about what I'm doing and it may not be particularly relevant:)

You're going about this for the right reason though- To make you feel good about yourself! If reaching your ideal weight [pending that it is a healthy ideal weight] will boost your confidence, then You are right on target!

Well I'm only 5''1 :) I'm glad to know there are other people from the UK, because I have difficulty converting sizes and stuff so I didn't mention in the post above that I started at a size 14 bordering on 16, and I'm hoping to finish at a comfortable size 12, as that's where I think I'll be happiest. Like you say, skinny doesn't mean happy :)

I'm from south Cheshire, studying at De Montfort in Leicester. What part of Wales are you moving to? I was born in south Wales, and was in that area last week, and where I live now is about 15 miles from the Welsh border so I have been on plenty of daytrips to north Wales. It's just the middle bit I know nothing about! :)

Congratulations on getting married! :) And thank you for responding with such kind words so quickly: my friend recommended this place because everyone is so great, and I can already see she's right! :)

I'm working toward a UK size 12 as well so we can work toward this together!

My fiance is a North COrnelly boy in Bridgend- We're getting married in Pyle and our reception will be at Margam Orangery. I climbed Snowdonia w/ my other half this summer- what a hike! But I too have yet to explore mid-Wales:)

What is your eating/fitness routine like?
