Hi everyone, my name is Aisling and im form just outside Dublin on the lovely island of Ireland!! I love to listen to rock music and play the drums in my spare time! this may be unusual but im just 15 years old and 196lbs....i know....brutal....people tell me im very pretty which keeps my self confidence up a small bit but i really really really want to lose weight. When im going to the cinema or to a disco with all my freinds they're all dressed in lovely clothes and it kills me then not to go simply because i dont want to go in a tracksuit bottoms and hoodie, don't get me wrong i wear jeans also but the drag down my self confidence as i feel my weight is so much more visable in them! I really want to lose SOME weight before i go back to school (september 3rd). I want to be that one girl who everyone looks at and says "oh my good look at how much weight she has lost" etc etc. I know that 6 weeks is not long to lose much weight and although i have tried and tried before i just keep failing. I give in to a bar of chocolate, maybe a packet of crisps and once i give in to that one thing there's no stopping me. When i really put my mind to it i can walk for maybe 4 miles a day 4 days per week but i might do great at that for 2 weeks and stop then for a month. I hope some of you can see where i am coming from and understand that being the age I am and the weight i am is not easy at all. I hope to recieve some of your replies helping me in my new task.

Hey Ash, well your on the right track!you see a problem!! 1st of all screw everybody else, who cares what they think, its what you think about yer self that is an issue, and forget about the good looks, look deeper, at your health!thats what motivates me, if you keep your body in good shape your less likly to become ill, and if you do your chances of recovery are much greater!I get depressed cuz I ate and then get depressed and ate!!GEZZ i was chasin my tail! But its not difficult at all, you just can't put more water in a bowl than the sun can evaporate , in a day if you do after a while the bowl will be full and you either have water runnin over the edge or you will need a bigger bowl, if you don't want a bigger bowl you need to stop puttin water in it till what you have evaporates, then after that only put in the bowl what the sun will evaporate daily, in the morning if there is still water in there from the day before, you don't have to put more water in the bowl,Hope this makes sense to ya! some people just keep addin food every day!! I did, and want pills or some magic serum to help them!! thats all bull!! it is all up to you! all ya gotta do is take action, anything left alone will only get worse!! Stop puttin water in the bowl ASH!!

Hi Aisling

I was in Ireland last year and had a wonderful time, it is very beautiful.

Goal setting is a double edged sword, on the one hand it can be very motivating, especially when the goal is attainable and short term ("I want to lose 10 lbs to fit into the next pants size down" sort of thing).

But the problem (as I see it) is that once you've reached that goal, it's easy to congratulate yourself right back up to the weight you started at or higher. If you miss the goal, you have a failure to deal with on top of the original issue. So you either need a string of short term attainable goals to get you down where you want to be or have longer-termed more general goals, which are often not so motivating.

I think it's important to examine the reasons you want to lose weight. I worry when I hear people say, "I want to lose weight to gain the acceptance or admiration of others." Of course that's a part of it, but I think the best reason has to be for yourself. I want to feel great and be healthy (if those are true, you will look great).

Fix yourself, for yourself and your own self confidence will grow, and that's the foundation of real beauty. People around you will notice and you'll get lots of attention. But that shouldn't be the goal, just the happy dividend.

Good luck with it!
