Hi my names Kevin and I just registered today :)
I recently gained a lot of weight and lost a lot of muscle mass. I used to be 170 but now I'm towering around a massive 220lbs LOL. I was an in shape healthy guy but my life came tumbling down after an open heart surgery I had in July 2012, six months ago (it was a right coronary artery anamoly repair). The surgery was a success, but I have chronic pericartidis which is a complication which has to be controlled with prednisone, a steroid that increases hunger and holds onto fat.

SO BASICALLY, for the last six months, I have been extremely inactive (trying to recover) and eating like mad due to steroids. But I decided that gaining 50lbs is insane and that I wanna lose it.
Nice to meet you all and I hope to make some friends also interested in losing weight!

Welcome Kevin
you have been through a lot, we went through my dad having a double bypass last year hard thing for the person and family but you are on the road to recovery and trying to make yourself a healthier person well done!

Are you still on the prednisone? you would also have to be careful with what exercise you can do to wouldn't you?

You might like a lot of us benefit from a weight loss journal, its been a great tool for me helping me keep track of what i'm eating :)

Nice to meet you Tasha!
At the moment I'm not on prednisone, I got off a couple days ago. But since July, I haven't gone more than 2 weeks off of it before my pericardium got inflamed(sac around the heart) and I needed it again. My cardiologist has problems (long story) so they always tell me different things about what I can do XD but lately they've said I can do anything but not push myself.

Not push yourself? Then how can you get a good workout? Haha but regardless of exercise, it is still very possible to lose weight without exercise.
And I'll check out that weight loss journal!

Welcome to the forums!
I'm glad to hear you are feeling better, Kevin. I'll keep my fingers crossed for it staying that way.

You could always go for a lower intensity but higher duration workout, like going for long walks. Those count as exercise.

Hi Kevin

You havent been posting on the forum for a few days and havent updated your challenge results.

I do hope that you are doing ok.

You have extra health issues and I hope that they are going ok for you.

You got brilliant weight loss in the previous week - particularly when you consider your medication...

Do not be concerned if for example you have gained weight - I know that at least one person gained weight last week and I know of at least one person who has said that they will not be weighing this week but will claim the points for their work.

You may feel limited by what exercise you can do due to your medical condition... I can assure you that the most effective form of exercise that I used when I reduced my weight from 294 (BMI 52) a few years ago was walking... and I can assure you that I was not walking very fast for quite a while... do not imagine that everyone else is pumping iron or running miles... simple things can be amazingly effective in controlling our weight...

If you go out walking at a level of intensity that your doctor approves of - you are exercising...

Get in touch if there is any way that I can help you.

Margaret
