Hey,I'm a 16 year old guy who is way too overweight and can't seem to lose it.

I'm 6 foot and I weigh about 258..all fat.

I need to lose this weight because I just can't put up with how I look anymore- and what really annoys me is that most of my wight is in my legs, and I've never seen this on another guy. I've tried to lose it before but I can't stay motivated and it is tough because my family doesn't really buy food with me in mind when I try to lose weight.

I would love to be down to at least 210 lbs by the end of May, think it is possible? By the time it is all done and over with, I'd like to weigh no more than 190. That is what I want to do with the new year, if anything.

Advice?
Also, I have access to weights I can lift, will building muscle help? And what about walking for an hour everyday?

Thanks, and I hope that with the help on this site I can get done what I need to get done.

Walking for an hour every day would be an excellent plan to assist in losing weight. Building muscle as well.
But you have to combine it with a healthy lifestyle. I personally count calories, and it's been working great for me. Losing about 50 pounds in 21 weeks sounds like a reasonable goal, though it won't be a cakewalk.
I use an app to help me count calories, lemme know if you want the link to it. (Google gives a ton of results for calorie counting apps, though.)

My advice is cardio, cardio, cardio... Start with walking.... or if you have a bicycle then then that's a great as well...

Here is my favorite cardio... If you can walk in a park or something, warm up for 5 minutes (brisk walking), then run/jog for 30 seconds, brisk walk for 1 minute, then run/jog for 30 seconds.... You will work up a nice sweat

You talked about weights. Now muscles weighs more than fat, so if you are going to do weights then you need to measure your inches as well that will help determine if you are replacing fat with muscle. (and you want to tone while you lose or else you gonna end up being flabby)

What else... Drink ONLY water.. No soda, no juice it makes a world of a difference.
Also try to pre plan what you are going to eat, sometimes if you wait until you are hungry and you don't have what you need you end up eating junk.

my final work of advice is DO NOT GIVE UP! You didn't gain weight in a day and it won't come off in a day.. It takes hard work and dedication.

Building muscle will help, but not significantly. Count your calories, reduce your fats and hit the cardio. Also, research intermittent fasting, I'm getting towards the end of my first week, combined with cardio and a 1600cal diet and I've lost 4lbs.

Cardio, intermittent fasting and reducing your fat intake will all contribute towards quicker fat burning and weight loss. Just don't lose too much too quick dude.

Walking is definitely a great way to start out! I'm not sure if it is a possibility to actually sit your family down and discuss your needs with them. Having them on board is going to help you out tremendously in the long run and will allow you to see even greater results. Cardio is going to be your best friend, but don't be afraid to lift weights a few times a week. I would aim for sets of 12-15 reps when lifting weights at this stage! Good luck bro!

Hey mate,

Same problem with me. I'm 16, and plenty of fat around the legs (also bum, thighs, stomach, back)! Unluckily for me, I had surgery 2 months back so my left leg was left with fat, and the right leg was completely toned due to crutches, but also covered with fat. I completely understand you! In terms of weights, I'm considering that once I've lost weight, but I'm no expert in that department. In terms of walking, go for it! Keep walking every day, and eventually start off with jogging, and slowly develop running. I lost 15kg's doing exactly that, walking for 2-3 weeks, then doing a bit of jogging for 5 minutes, walk and regulate my heart rate, then jog again, and eventually 2 months later, I was able to run 2-3km without stopping. But this was in 2008-9, and I was extremely motivated, gained it all back in 2010-11. Up to it again now. :) But drop me a message or anything if you wish, because I'm sure we both can relate to this issue and even help each other out to stay motivated!

Staying motivated is a big problem everyone faced. I also face this problems... but then i learnt some techniques to staying motivated. You dont need to do something big and extra. You only need to make small changes in your lifestyle and you will eventually see a big difference in your weight. i believe in do less succeed more and this type of success sustain for a life.
He, who rushes ahead, does not go far.
make small changes step by step and after sometimes you will see changes in you and your weight.
