Herniated Disc

So I've been to two doctors now who have both said I have a lower disc herniation.

The 1st doctor said I could either have surgery or get injections, but he didnt want to do surgery and said injections may not help.

The 2nd doctor said injections won't help, but he wants to put me on some stretching program (mon-fri for a month) to get the disc off of my nerve. He said I can't sprint or play basketball during this time, which is kind of annoying. I also don't see how once the stretching program is done that sprinting/jumping wouldnt just push the disc back onto the nerve again, but that's beside the point.

He also told me to be cautious with lifting, so my question is: Are there any lifts I shouldn't do that will put a lot of pressure on my lower discs?

I obviously know squatting, dead lifts, are out of the question. However, I'm thinking even a seated shoulder press is bad, even seated row, right?

Thanks for any info on this, I appreciate it.

if its a herniated disc you need to avoid any flexion in your lumbar spine (bending forward), Rehab will consist of gentle arching (McKenzie technique), traction, core strengthening and hip mobilization. I found an online program that has rehab workouts for this and other workouts you can do that won't hurt your back. Try yipfit.com and it will create rehab and exercise programs for you.

cool. I just looked into yipfit.com and it seems really cool. It even builds the workouts around what equipment you own.
I don't really know any good exercises for back pain, but I will try this out and see if it helps it looks really thorough.

Herniated Disc Pain Relief and Treatments Guide.

Herniated discs are a major cause of disability in people under 45.
I am one of those people.
For the past 3 years I suffer L5S1 disc hernia, the most common type of hernia.
But each case is slightly different and that makes it very difficult to treat.
In my case I also have hyperlordosis, scoliosis and spina bifida.
I have been trying countless treatments and supposed cures. I was often left in disappointment but fortunately found some sources of relief.
I'm not a doctor, just a student with lots of experience with a mother which is a doctor.
At this time, despite my efforts, I have reached a point where I need surgery.
But if I have had the experience and the knowledge I have now I could have avoided this complicated situation for sure.

There I explain who I am and where I come from, watch it if you can and share it if you like it.

All I want to say you that there are some wonderful remedies for this type of slipped disk problem. Medication works wonderfully as well as surgery and injection. But maintaining a cautious life style is very important.

Now I would like to show you some ways that would probably help you to get rid of from this problems.

• The first treatment for a slipped disk is a short period of rest with medications for the pain, followed by physical therapy. Most people who follow these treatments will recover and return to their normal activities. A small number of people will need to have treatment, which may include steroid injections or surgery.

• You need to change your usual lifestyle too. If you are over weighed then diet and exercise are crucial to improving back pain.

• Physical therapy is also important for nearly everyone with disk disease. Therapists will tell you how properly lift, dress, walk and perform other activities. They will on strengthening the muscle that helps support the spine. You would also learn how to increase flexibility in your spine and legs.

Lastly you may want to reduce your activity for the first couple of days. Then, slowly restart your usual activities. Avoid heavy lifting or twisting your back for the first 6 weeks after the pain starts. If possible start light exercising again after 2-3 weeks.
