Here we go. . .

So. . . I'm relatively new to this whole "healthy" thing. I'm one of those lucky few who are basically able to do whatever they want to their body with little or no repercussions. . . at least I was.

I've been performing the same basc task functions for over ten years at the same job. . . pick item up, place item down. repeat, stack on top. The health benefits from this action were noticeable - never having been athletic indidvidiual, I now found myself bruised, bloodied and broken. This, at the start of my alleged career.

Years later, I could do amazing things. I serviced aircraft, dealing with passenger baggage. Part of the job requiremet was to jump into the cargo hold (anywhere between a three foot hop to a five foot hop). Evetually, I discovered that I could hold onto the ledge and pull this acrobatic stunt where my legs fit through the area my arms were holding on to, then sliter my way in. Odd. . . probably strange to imagine, but I swear it is the truth. The proper way of going about this is to use a loader, climb on to it and crawl its length into the aircraft belly.

I now see my chiropractor only once a week. When I began seeing him last year, I came in three times a week. I blame the desk job i have now. Hunched over staring at a computer. Bad for the back. . .

I still eat what I want; however, the strangest thing just happened to me. . . I looked down and saw. . . flab? the skin around my belly was stretched taught after a meal, but the skin at my armpits was droopy. . . this concerned me.

One day, I left my suit at home, threw on my ramp gear and drove to the port. I was exhausted five minutes into the first flight. I used to be able to pull a straight fivteen hours during "optimal" conditions. No longer.

My wife. . . well, I'll suffice it to say that we met at the airport, and have a lovely son. He's now nineteen months, and she has hasn't lost a single pound since the pregnancy. And her knees hurt. And her lower back hurts. "Walking" was suggested - a difficult task when the thermometer reads -20C.

We hunted for a treadmill, purchased one. And an eliptical. Next up - a wall mounted tv.

They arrive tomorrow. I can't wait for my stamina to rekindle, for my strength to improve, for my body to hurt because I will it too. I hope that my quiting smoking aids in my body's reconnection. . .

I hope my wife's knees feel better too. But I really hope that the debt collectors come after we've been able to get healtiher. . .

REason for thi spost - I need guidance. Never having done this before, I need to encourage both my self and my wife to keep things going forward.

Can anyone help me out?

Oh wow.

I hurt.

A good hurt, though. I've joined a running club which will begin in a few more weeks. Meanwhile, I've hopped on a treadmill and elliptical trying to get these once smoke-filled lungs a chance to breathe. They breathe better - I can handle up to 5 mies in an evening; however, I'm thinking To improve my short distance running. See if I can't handle ahigher speed.

Weights - well. . . Like I mentioned earlier, I was, at one time, in shape. I'm trying hard to get there again. Need to learn to lift them better.

I've been averaging 2 Miles in 30 minutes. on the treadmill. I manage a greater distance in similar time on the elliptical, same time frame. I've been playing with some dumbbells - I can manage decently well with the 15 lb weights; I'm thinking I can get up to 20 within two weeks. Variety of differing motions (not sure which are beneficial and which are not).

Guess i'll figure out how do better do things should I sustain an injury. . .

Aiming to run my first ever 5 K race in two months! I'd like to progressively increase the distance throughout the year - 10 K, 5 Mile for sure this year. Maybe work up to a 1/2 marathon by next year if I'm able to keep it up. If I can get my pronation under control. . .

Until then. . . I'll be runnin' around. my little fun wheel.
