Here we go again... *sigh*

Max in Dubai

Hi all, I'm halfway through the first of 11 weeks in which I hope to lose 10kg, and thought I'd look for some motivational assistance and found this site. I'm currently around 75kg, 165cm tall and none of my clothes fit me at present.

I've been good so far this week, resisting the temptation of chocolate bars in the drawer at home, cheescake offered to me at work yesterday, and no "drinkies" either as yet. My other half and I go for a brisk walk for 45 mins to an hour in the evenings after work.

About 4 years ago I lost 10kg with a low fat diet and regular walking, but it took me about 6 months on my own so now I have a weight loss buddy to do it with and hopefully this will motivate me to stick to it a little better.

Since meeting my other half, my main problem is portion control of carbs, and I have put it all back on plus an extra 3kg, I find it difficult to give myself a small portion but I am trying. Not to mention the fabulous restaurant scene here in Dubai... *burp*!

My weight loss buddy and I share an office but she won't tell me how much she weighs so we have made a graph to chart how many kilos we lose over the next 10 weeks. Haven't decided on the prize as yet but we'll decide that later... any non food/drink ideas appreciated.

I have not weighed myself as yet, so I am looking forward to that maybe in a couple of days. Will be updating this to keep track of my progress and hopefully keep myself motivated and help some others to do so also.

Max.

Well, my office buddy and I had our first weigh in yesterday. She lost 1.5kg despite a few stumbles, and I lost 1.7kg so we are both very pleased with ourselves and the motivation is high. We know that it is normal to lose more in the first couple of weeks so we are not expecting to continue to lose at that rate for long, but it's still a good feeling for now. My work clothes are feeling a little less uncomfortable at least. My partner and I are going up to Mussandam on the North Coast of Oman over the weekend so I will be a little less self conscious in my swim suit at least. We'll have to be careful food wise though cos it's a fairly long road trip and we usually stop for junk food when out driving. Anyway, great first week for us and well motivated to continue the good work.

End of the second week and I'm still losing weight. YAY! I've lost a total of 2.2kg over two weeks, even with a couple of minor blowouts over the weekend. We drove for three hours each way to go on a dhow trip in Mussandam, Oman. The scenery was spectacular, we snorkled all the way around Telegraph Island, the sea life was great and the excercise was enjoyable. We ended up at a lovely hotel on the coast for a buffet lunch so *poof* went the diet for the day but no alcohol which was good. I've been walking about 40mins a day and although it's starting to get a bit warm here in Dubai it's still bearable outside. I have the gym upstairs for when it gets too hot though even if it is a bit boring on the treadmill, the view is nice as it is on the top floor of the building with a full glass wall. I've been reasonably disciplined with my food intake. My other half makes us both fresh fruit salad with plain yoghurt for breakfast while we get ready for work. I don't normally eat anything until lunch and have a small portion of protien and lots of salad for lunch, then lean protien, medium portion of carbs and lots of vegies for dinner at night. I have a few dried apricots or prunes to satisfy my sweet tooth after dinner. My weight loss buddy hasn't been very well disciplined this week, eating rubbish like fried french toast in front of me in the office for breakfast. I think she might be ready to throw in the towel which would be a shame but I'll try to keep her motivated with my success.
