so i weigh 131lbs with a small gut and i jus started using herbalife for about a week now and im tryin to gain lean muscle weight while tryin to lose my gut,so this is my routine...
im drinking N.R.G tee through out the day
7am-2scoops personalized protein powder 2 scoops formula 1
10am-snack PB&J and banana
12pm-450-500 calorie lunch(no shake after lunch)
330pm-snack trail mix and apple
600pm-lift weights
700pm-muscle strength and recovery shake
800pm-dinner
830pm-2 scoops of formula 1 shake
now my question is should i be drinkin another shake at lunch time? and how many shakes should i drink with protein? is the one in the morning and the recovery shake enough for the day? and there are also i think 2 kinds of protein powder from herbal life, the personalized protein powder which has 5g of protein and the protein drink mix which has 15g of protein, which one is better for me to use? hope you guys can help, thx in advance

Hi there,

What I learned through my endurance cycling training, is that our body can only absorb so much protein. If you do very intense strength training, you probably need 1.2-1.4 grams of protein per one kilogram of your weight - that's 1.2 per 2.2 pounds, roughly 70 grams per day (even that seems kind of high, to be honest). And it's always better when most of it comes from natural sources, like meat, fish, beans, etc. rather than supplements. I haven't tried herbalife myself, but I do eat one protein bar per day, so that's kind of a similar thing. Still, it's best to focus on protein from food.

Additional protein you consume over the limit your body can process will metabolize into sugar, and if you are eating any excess calories, it will be stored as fat, in the same manner that carbs and fats that we get from food sources do. Your best bet to lose "the gut" is to limit your calorie intake to the point where you create a calorie deficit, and focus on strength training. It will eventually go away, but it will take a long time. Healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week. Our abdominal area stores a lot of fat, so it takes forever for it to go away. I've had issues with my abs my whole life, since I was a kid. It does take a lot to not gain any fat in that area - generally, I have to maintain a very low weight in general for my abs to look flat. It's not easy, and it gets harder with the age.

Do you have a weight goal?
