Help!

Hello everyone! I'm new to this and I'm in a pickle. My health insurance allowed me to join a gym this year where I've received physical therapy, pool therapy, and been able to exercise to help learn to walk for the 5th time in my life. I've had 3 heart attacks and a major stroke. My left knee has no ligaments left from sports injuries, surgery, and many falls. Ry ride side is paralyzed by the stroke. I was put in a wheelchair about 13 years ago. I decided to learn to walk early this year after becoming so disgusted with my lack of exercise and lack of mobility. I was way overweight because of my immobility. I started with a few baby steps with a quad cane and now, despite numerous falls, I have been able to walk on level hard surfaces pretty much as far as I've ever needed to walk.

Problem: My doctor keeps prescribing meds that cause excessive weight gain that no amount of exercise can affect. Compounding this, my insurance has terminated my gym membership for the next year, so I am not even able to attempt to get healthy or receive therapy. Most gyms around here generally don't have therapy (warm water) pools or equipment I need and am able to use to get my exercise to build strength for walking.

I need help to find someplace that can help me out without a big bucks cost. I'm on Social Security and simply can't pay lots of money. The insurance decision to cancel my current membership is now a life and death issue!!!http://training.fitness.com/images/icons/icon9.png

Hey swerd, welcome to the forum! Is there anywhere to walk in your neighborhood or town? Do you have a friend or family member that you can go with who can keep an eye on you during your walks? I don't live in the US so I can't really help you out with a location, but I know that in Canada, many city-owned gyms or non-profits like the YMCA will reduce the price of your membership if you have low-income or a disability.
