Hi I'm Amy. I just had a baby 10 weeks ago. A beautiful baby girl named Annabelle Josephine. I gained 65lbs and cannot seem to get it off. Before pregnancy, I was 135lb athlete but was practically on bedrest the whole nine months due to complications. So naturally I got really out of shape and gained weight. For the past six weeks I have been dieting pretty seriously and have not cheated ONE time. I eat two sausages with egg whites for breakfast, tuna (plain) with a salad with vinegarette for lunch, grilled protein with roasted veggies for dinner, and nuts and fruit for small snacks. I every this EVERY single day. I have also been exercising as much as possible with a new baby and a full time job. I know I need to squeeze in more cardio. The problem is that I have not lost ONE pound in six weeks! I was reading about hypothyroidism after pregnancy and am wondering if I have it. I have lost weight on this diet before and kept it off for many years. I am getting so frustrated and depressed. Has anyone else ever gone through this??? I lost twenty pounds quickly after giving birth but it was mostly baby and fluid. I need to get the rest off!! Any advice is welcome!

i hear ya!

OMG AMy....this seems like my post!....I had my daughter(second baby) in April this year and gained 30 stupid lbs..of which i lost 15 right away after delivery....but till now..(and my baby is 8 months old now)..i havent been able to drop ONE SINGLE POUND!!!! ..I too was suspecting it to be some thyroid issue...but after getting some tests done...turns out thats not the case!...I work out 5 days a week..i take pilatess, muscle, yoga and kickboxing...for an hour and a half...am on a very strict protien based diet....but dont lose weight...though i have lost 15 inches off my body and have dropped a dress size (size 6 now from size 8)...but still..am not seeing the results that i shud be seeing after busting my ass so much.....
All i can say to you is to ignore the scale and keep your eye on the inches..they seldom let you down...will remember ya in my prayers...do likewise...Have a Merry Xmas..and cheat a little...itsOK:rolleyes:

It's good to know I'm not the only one going through this. Good news though, I lost three pounds! I was very excited to FINALLY see some weight loss. It's not much but it's definitely a start. I will be watching the inches from now on. Thanks for the motivation!

totally know how you feel. i had baby #4 in august! my kids were born in 01,03,05 and 06. my body has never really healed. i lost all of it the first two times but three and four were too close together for me. i am DETERMINED to get the weight off. it is all i think about. i go to college full time and work out there at least twice a week and work out at home at least twice a week. i want back to 110 and am tired of hearing it is impossible. i am also tired of hearing, "you have such a small frame you're just not as thin as before". it makes me so sick to hear that!
i can relate to you all! i wish you all good luck in this difficult but not impossible task!

That's right! Losing this baby fat isn't impossible. Thanks for the support. We all can do this. We just have to keep trying. I cannot imagine how you do it with 4 children. Just the though of having another right now is terrifying. 110? Wow, I haven't been that weight since 3rd grade! I was a fat kid. Lol! I'm here if you need any support or motivation. Good luck!!

New mom also

My son is 5 months now. I had hoped to lose all the weight PLUS a lot by now. Maybe it was unrealistic, but now that I am not nursing (as of the past couple days) I feel like I can be serious about it. I ran cross country in high school and still LOVE to work out, but up until I got married I never had to watch what I ate, so I didn't. And I paid for it by gaining around 60 pounds since I met my husband. Well, it's about time to take it off. I have worked out four days this week (so far) and been sticking to unprocessed food. Have lost 6 pounds so far. But I feel like I have sooooo far to go...

Oh yeah I meant to ask you if you are nursing... if you are your body could be holding on to fat more, the more strict you are. You might need to ADD more calories and carbs to encourage your body to let go of some fat (when it knows your baby will still get enough nourishment)

Don't worry, be determined

I totally understand what you feel right now. My baby girl turned 4 months yesterday. During pregnancy for the first 7 months I was eating healthy, exercizing 3 days a week and gained about 50 pounds, then I gave up and treated myself and my husband :) with icecreams and cookies at night. By the end of my pregnancy my weight was 75 lbs more that it was before. But reading what other mommies say, I was confident i would lose this weight in a fraction of year lol. I lost about 30 pounds right away, but while breastfeeding I regained about 10lbs. I was shocked about a month ago, when I stepped on a scale and was over 200 lbs!!! Then I decided I am done! And that day I went outside and ran around my neighbourhood. This gave me about 7 minutes of cardio. And I was burned out. I have never run before, I was into fitness, yoga and kickboxing more. After running I decided to do some crunches, and buttox exercizes. i was determined to do this every day. And I did, after 9 o clock, when my baby went to sleep, I put on my 2 jackets, hat and gloves :) and run. Now I changed my schedule a little bit: 1 day I do 20 minutes running and 30-40 min exercizing, another day running and stretching. I changed my diet: do not it bread, rice or pasta, only cereal in the morning, salad for lunch, a lot of fruits between the meals (mandarines are in the season right now), and no candies: if I crave dessert: I have a cup of sugar-free jell-o and wipped cream. This has about 40-50 calories in it and is DELICIOUS :). It has been a month since I am sticking to my system ( I am still breastfeeding) and I lost about 8.5 pounds, yay! i am positve about losing more, gradually of course. Make sure you understand: it took you 9 months to gain this weight, it will take you good nine months to loose it. So be positive, stick to whatever you decided to do and to be. Merry Christmas and Have a Happy New You - New Year!

I have had several clients looking to lose baby weight, and have had to work it off myself.

The first thing I always tell new moms is this - it took 9 months worth of growing a baby to put that weight on, and it takes a good while to get it off. Your body has been through a lot (as you know). It doesn't recover overnight either. The standard "6 weeks" to recover is not for everyone. Some people's bodies are back to normal much later than that, and don't always respond well to aggressive weight loss measures for a while.

You also must account for the drastic hormonal rollar coaster of pregnancy and childbirth. Your hormones play a large role in weight loss.

I am assuming by your aggressive diet and wieght loss that you are not breastfeeding? - that can be a factor, some women find it easier to lose weight while bf since it burns around 500 calories a day to lactate.

Many women, myself included, have found that the rules have changed after having a baby. What used to work, suddenly doesn't. Our bodies are unknown territory all of a sudden. We stand looking in the mirror, thinking this can't possibly be my body - but, it is, and it will get better, just more slowly than before.

*also, variety in your food intake will probably help, as well as making sure you are getting the right amount of calories, high or low - google "harris benedict equation" to get your caloric needs

Thanks!

Thanks everybody for such supportive words! I have been sticking to my diet and exercise routine and i have managed to loose 7 more inches off my body..(but only 3 lbs on the scale)....and i feel great!.....
Im sure all of you will defintely get there...just need lots of time and patience...Have a joyous christmas and New year!

Hi Amy,
Here is a quick and easy workout plan you might like to try. Of course get the OK from your doctor first.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday

1. Free standing squats 50-50-50
2. Crunches 15-15-15
3. Chair dips 8-8-8

The numbers per set are just an example. Pick the right amount of reps based on your fitness level. The key to this workout is that you rest only 15 seconds between sets. Add more repetitions to each set every two weeks. Also feel free to change up the exercises to give your body something new to respond to. Remember that it is very important to be consistent with your workout. Hope this helps a little. Have fun with it and good luck!;)

First of all, Congrats on becoming a mom!

The same exact thing happened to me. I gained 50 lbs during pregnancy but b/c of my c-section, I had to take it easy for a month until I could begin moderate diet and exercise. Anyway, I dieted and worked out for over a month and actually gained a pound!! I was so upset and so at my post pardom check up, my OB explained to me that weight loss after pregnancy is more of a waiting game than anything else. Although it varies for each woman, usually it takes about 3-4 months until you will see results b/c of excess hormones, crazy water retention, and exhaustion from interrupted sleep. I would recommend making an appointment with your OB and explain your concern. They are usually pretty good about getting you the help you need and recommending other options. Hope this helps and good luck!

Congratulations to the new moms! I truly believe that our bodies are out of whack for a long time after giving birth:) I think you guys are doing so great. I mean, it took me a year or more after my last baby to even have the strength to get out of bed:( So, I applaud you guys for taking action so soon!

Congragulations on the New Baby Daughter AmyRB.
You need to try walking at one of your Local Gym when you have the time or go on the Elipitical Machines there they do wonders for you and start off with 20 mins and you'll soon be able to do 10 more mins more than you use to do. You can try Billy Blanks Tae-bo
