HELP!! Training someone with a bad back.

Hello. I'm training my uncle and my mom. There goal is both weight loss. I am wondering what to do about my Uncle's*herniated*L4*and*L5 in his back. What CAN he do and what CANT he do. Thanks
 
oh that's easy!

take 9 ibuprofens, chase it with vodka
do straight leg dead lifts
hyper reverse back extensions
zurk squats
and then finish up with OVERHEAD SQUATS! :p
 
Thanks. But not quite the answer I was looking for. What kinda of cardio can he do (bearcrawls, duckwalks, jumping jacks. Ect)
 
the doctor advice is probably the best also if he finds conventional cardio painful try water based exercises
