Help: Thin body, except my stomach!

Hey guys,

I'm 23 years old and just about to start working out. I've never really been very fit and I thought it would be good to try and see how far I can push myself.

I'm 5ft5 and I weigh in around 135lb. Overall, I'm quite happy with my weight, however, at first glance I look like a thin guy but I really do not feel that way. My stomach is my worst feature. I hate it. It is big, seriously, the rest of me is pretty skinny then there's my belly that stick out, I look like I'm in early stages of pregnancy lol.

Currently I am doing a lot of walking, with weights in my backpack, and light jogging. I have no actual routine in place right now, I'm just going with it. I know there's no way of burning off a certain area of your body, but could any give me any tips on how to get a flat stomach? Any help with a fitness routine would be great too.

Thanks guys!

Hi. You need to do specific work on your "core" - the middle part of your body. You are correct that you cannot lose fat on a certain part of your body, but since you are thin, fat may not be the issue. If the issue is muscle weakness you can change that by toning that area. Also, you should choose exercises that also stretch the area, since the other issue is that tighness and poor posture can cause the problem as well. Your best bet at this point would be to see a personal trainier once or twice and get a good core stretching and strengthening routine. Good luck!
