HELP please!

Hey everybody! I need some help. I am a 32 year old mom and graduate student in Texas. I am only 5'3" tall and 11 weeks ago I weighed 252. I started Jenny Craig and now I weigh 228.6 and I have lost 13.5 inches. I have been doing a walking video 2-3 times a week and swimming a lot with my son, but haven't started any real serious exercise program.

I really don't know what to do. I can't get motivated to exercise at all. I bought a pedometer to use while I am walking around campus at UT - I walk about 7,000 steps 4 days a week. I have dogs that we walk a few times each day, but that's about all the exercise I get.

I don't want to end up with saggy left over skin after I lose weight. Can anyone give me tips on what to start on first. Jenny Craig has a walking video and I do it about 2-3 times a week, but I want to do more. I can't do aerobics yet because of my knees and my back. I take BP medicine and when I exercise I get very short winded very fast - almost immediately.

Can anyone help me?? I attached my picture so you could see what my body looked like about a month before I started JC-it's pretty yucky looking :(

Hey, I like the screen name (click on my profile). I take it that is your birthday?

There is a lot here to work on. First, I would start with your nutrition. I don't know if Jenny Craig has changed since I looked at it years ago, but I am generally not in favor of those kinds of programs. You are also most certainly not exercising enough.

Do you have a fax number? Email it to me... I can fax you a home workout plan tomorrow that requires very little equipment. I would try doing some resistance exercise with a bit of intensity, and I would also crank up the intensity of your walking (try walk-jog-walk-jog until you can just plain jog). You should also be doing a bare minimum of 10,000 steps a day. The average European walks over 16,000 steps per day!

I don't see the attached photo. Try to post it again.

Congratuations on the weight loss...I have to agree with JP...you need to excersise more and continue to do so...don't think about what kind of flab you may have afterwards, deal with that when the time comes...look at it like I need to get to that point and then at least you've gotten the fat off and then discuss what you can do about that with your doctor...we all have difficulties with body image at times but you need to get that weight off so your heart stays healthy...I know its difficult because we have so much going on with jobs, kids, school and the fatigue can be unbearable...if you can't get motivated your not going to lose weight. So you have to get motivated...change up your routine...really move. No leisurely walks unless you've already done your workout. Another thing is junk food...and sugar, get rid of cookies and chips. My weekness is Doritos..but there is so much crap in this stuff. After you stop eating it you wont miss it...just treat yourself once in awhile. Good luck!

Yes, of course, congrats on the weightloss. However, services such as Jenny Craig tend to lead to unhealthy eating habits that usually shed the pounds very quickly, but the weight will usually slowly creep back up on you. There is no secret to weightloss, but many of these services like to claim they have found it. This is all you need to know, "eat less, move more". Decrease your caloric intake until you start to see the pounds melt away. Exersize! You NEED to exersize. Daily exersize is essential to a healthy lifestyle. As JP has recommended, adding a resistance training aspect to your workouts will help GREATLY with your fatloss goal. Resistance training burns calories in the gym, and for a significant amount of time after you have actually haulted performance of the activity. Resistance training is more effective for fatloss than anaerobic activity such as distance, steadily paced walking/running.
