Help needed

Hi,

I need some advice. I really want to become fit but I just can't get the motivation unless I have personal training. So many times I've gone to the Gym to "shape up" and then lost interest, not because I've lost the motivation but because I don't know if I'm doing the right amount of exercise, for all I know I could be eating more than I'm burning or just not doing enough exercise. You see, I really want to just be told an exact diet, an exact workout, as then I know for a fact that I would be on the right direction to achieving my goals. The thing is, the only way to have that is Personal training and I can't afford that, so can anyone give me any advice? Is there any other way to have this kind of service at any clubs? Maybe that "Get results" thing at Fitness First?

I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you for your time,
Stevj016.

What about getting a couple of other people and hiring a trainer as a group? It's not quite as good, but it's certainly more affordable.

Your other option is Group Ex classes. Sometimes, they're actually really good.

To Stevj016,

For now let's say you can't get the motivation, yet be open
to the possibility ( there are ways)

To find out what to do, have a trainer with experience give you
one session to draw up a beginners "plan". Then find an accountability
buddy.

If you choose to, let me know your Age, weight, experience, health level, I'll write what I can to get you started.

Also...drum roll please, I hinted to motivation above so here are the goods...
Zenhabits.net. The blog is the real deal.

P.S. Look up the famous Winston Churchill quote that begins, "Never give up...

Hi Stevj016...I was going through the same dilemma as you a couple of months back...I have a fitness room/gym in my Condo, but there is not personal trainer,so the motivaton factor was missing...I would go like a couple of times a week but I did not have any sense of direction.....

Then I joined a couple of fitness forums like sparkspeople and and this really turned me around big time....

especially on 8minuteabsguy,I am working out with a group on what they call WOWY (WorkOut With You) which is an excellent support group.....Right now I am trying their free one month membership, which also gives me access to a free Personal Trainer,Customised Diet and Nutrition, tracking tools and all the good stuff...I still have a couple of more free weeks left

Sparkspeople is another excellent support group ,if you are looking for motivation....

also take an hour of time and read some stickys in the weight training, then give us your stats, and then additional questions you have, if you don't know your 3rep max weight, we can start off genericly based on your stats.

Solution to your training woes...

I have been using some of the resources offered by mypypeline.com as an addition to my Triathlon training, and have found it be affordable and a pretty good solution to some of the problems you mentioned.

I dont mean to be rude, but this sounds like a copout to me. Theres no reason to not workout just becasue you dont know the perfect routine and diet plan. Start a beginners routine, read some info, and refine your program as you go.

Read these, state your goals and ask questions. There are tone of people here that will help.

Steve,

There are a lot of things you can do. I am a personal trainer (ACSM) and the articles here can help. If there is anything that I can do to help via email just let me know. (dwmilam@msn.com)

I think you should just get started and into a routine first, once the motivation and will power is there your money will be better spent getting and trainer for a little while and having them perfect your routine

I dunno. Motivation is weird. Find something you like to do that isn't, at first sight, exercise.

For example.

I'm super competitive, so I play soccer and ultimate frisbee and basketball for fun, but it's exercise. Also, I have interest in botany, so I go on tons of hikes to see new plants. Its not really EXERCISE time for me, but it gets you up and going.

Eventually, you'll break some of your old loafing habits and then it will be easier to move into a real exercise regime.

your not motivated because you dont know what to do.

i had the same problem when i first started. i looked like an idiot doing random exercises at the gym. my advice would be to take 1 session with a personal trainer, write down everything he tells you, and follow it until you get used to exercising. (not months though).

of course reading always helps.

im not a personal trainer or anything. im just a person that understands how you feel.
