I need a bit of motivation.. so here goes....
IF I DO NOT WORK OUT WITHIN THE NEXT 14 HOURS....
(by 2 AM eastern)
Please chide, deride, humiliate, denigrate, insult, dishonor, violate, abuse, despise, slander, disrespect, offend, profane, taunt, upset, provoke, snub, vilify, or hurt me in some way, here in this thread!
(Holy Cow! English has a lot of words for that sort of thing)
I hope that's enough for me to get on the treadmill today.
I really need it!
.....
Optionally, if I don't work out, you could also belittle, admonish, berate, punish, ostracize, alienate, penalize, maltreat, misuse, condemn, chastise, discipline, scold, denounce, rebuke, reprimand, discredit, dishearten, malign, curse, censure, condemn, disapprove, or reprimand me as well.

Just do it!

Hey Monster,

Personally, I don't think anyone of those verbs are beneficial in helping us create new healthy behaviours, or even as motivation to get on the treadmill.

Although I don't agree with all of their practices, I think that NIKE has the greatest slogan of all time. "Just do it."

And, the reason this works is this: when we find it difficult to muster up the motivation to do what we "know and want" to do, we're battling some pretty tough, rebellious drives from our subconscious minds. Drives that are in constant battle with what we consciously want, and you know what? Nine time out of ten, your subconscious will win, because it is literally one million times stronger than your conscious will.

So, I play little games with my brain to make it do what I want. And, over time, with consistent practice, I can get my new -- wanted -- behaviour to stick. Eventually it becomes part of who I am.

This is how I finally learned how to eat right, exercise regularly -- without the struggle -- and to put my eating disorders to bed.

Don't get me wrong. This isn't easy, but it beats living the way I used to. In a constant battle with my mind every single day, with no hope in sight.

And, another thing, I've never, ever regretted having a workout. No matter how hard it was to get there. Because I know that it's as good for my brain, and all its battles, as it is for my body. I've always regretted not exercising!

Here's one trick that I often use to get myself to exercise on the days where I just don't feel like it. If I don't feel like working out, I'll tell myself that I only have to do ten minutes. That's it! If after ten minutes I really don't want to continue, I don't, and tell myself that I'll feel better tomorrow. No regrets, no negativity, no blame. The deal is that I at least get off my butt and try, and if it's not to be that day, I don't sweat it.

Inevitably, after my mind and body have warmed up (ten minutes!) I feel good and want to continue. I also let my body and mind dictate how hard I workout on that day. If I feel good and proud, like I can conquer the world, I go for it. I have an incredibly, intense, challenging workout and am so pumped about it long after I finish.

So, after that spiel, I say to you, "Just do it." You won't be sorry.

Good luck, Monster!

Cheers!

Janet

While I agree with Janet....I have a different idea...I will actually kick your butt until you do it!! I mean, I will do whatever it takes man, don't test me! lol

...
YAY!!!! I did it, with 1 hour and 5 minutes to spare! LOL
30 mins on treadmill.
none of that nasty stuff for me!
Thanks for the kind words, Korrie and JanetJ!
....
And Janet, I usually do the same thing. I was planning on 15 or 20 minutes, but made it to 1/2 hour!
