Help me please

i have recently loss about 55 lbs, im 5'11 and was 242 now im at 187. I lost the weight by controlling the portions i eat, eliminating all junk food ( except for beer) and sticking to a diet thats mostly made up of chicken, turkey, fruits and vegetables. I eat 5 times a day, this includes 3 meals and 2 snacks. I also did 40 min of cardio ( the elliptical) 4 times a week and played basketball 3-4 times a week for hours at a time.

My problem is that i recently started lifting and stopped doing the cardio. I have kept the same diet. The thing is that since 3 weeks ago when i started lifting i have gained 2 lbs, i doubt that this is muscle because it seems way too fast. My question is should i keep doing cardio along with the weight training? Also should i switch up my diet now that i have lost all of the weight?

Congrats on losing 55 lbs.. how long did it take you to do that?

Why'd you give up the cardio? You should do both. AND continue eating clean. Beer is ok in moderation.

2 pounds is NOTHING.....it's way too difficult to delineate if it's fat, muscle or water. I wouldn't even worry about it.

Lifting weights will result in muscle gain, and muscle is very dense and weighs a lot...so some of it is water. Also, with just about any diet you'll get a bit of a bounce when you fall off the uber-lean consumption (which means you may see a bit of a gain). Even with a healthy level of consumption, your body may stash a bit more glycogen now that you aren't running such a deficit. I seriously wouldnt' consider your situation a "problem".....but definitely keep an eye on things. Unless you're hitting the buffet and gorging, I'm sure everything is fine.

And yes, continue with cardio. I do cardio one day and weights the next, alternating. You can even follow-up the weights with some light cardio (30-45 minutes on the elliptical or something). At the end of the day, week, month and & year...it still comes down to calories in vs. calories out. Don't over-analyze things and get wigged-out....you've made GREAT progress and I seriously doubt you're going to let yourself reinflate or lose it; you worked too hard to get here! :D
