I've been looking over this forum for a long time and finally joined. You guys are all so inspirationa,l but I desperately need help and advice from you please

For years,, atleast 5, I've been struggling with my weight and it's constantly digging me into a deeper and deeper depression.

I'm 5'6 and weigh a nasty, NASTY 221.4. Whats pathetic is I use to be 191, less than 4 months ago. I got mono, then pnuemonia and I gained every pound back.

I'm only 17, can anyone give me advice to help me get out of this hump and lose the weight and actually keep it off?

I am in track and work out every day. That is not my problem. (Working out that is)

But food, it is killing me. I need help.

What can I do to stop the hungry, and what can I eat to help get me away from fatty foods. I'm sick of feeling like I'm in prision.

Many many thanks.

Just keep your self busy and you wont eat as much. Go out chill with friends and have fun. The more fun you have the more weight you will lose. Party like a rockstar.

What are your meals like?
Who does the cooking at dinner and can you talk to the about preparing healthier choices?

I do not suggest dropping yourself to a very low amount of calories, that won't help you long term, but do keep track of your calories and see where they are going --it's easier to cut back when you know what you are eating..

Hey honey! I am so glad that you found this great place. Sounds corny maybe, but you will find so much inspiration here, and find a lot of truly great people too!

I feel like we have very similar situations! I too am 5"6, and when I started my lifestyle change, I weighed 215. This was in August 2007. Sadly, in January 2007, I weighed 195. I gained 20 pounds! Urgh... Now, I am down to 177 in about 4 months.. I'm by no means done, but just wanted to let you know that you can get out of those 200's quickly and start feeling great about yourself :)

You should definetely talk to some very knowledgeable people on here about your food, I have no doubt they can help you! Good luck :)

I gained a lot of weight at high school and college because I could eat whatever I wanted: french fries, ice cream, or double portions, fried chicken...

Do you have healthy stuff to eat at home? Can your family support your desire to eat healthier? Can you pack your lunch & snacks to school?

Also, try to avoid judging yourself. Your current situation simply is what it is. What matters now is to do something about it.

I think one of your first steps should be to limit eating double portions. If you do have that cheeseburger or chicken sandwich at school, avoid the mayo, eat one of them and then wait 15 minutes before you eat another "main course."

Thank you so much everyone!

I have healthy food at home now, yes, but its getting the motivation to avoid the every so tasty but ever so bad foods here. I do keep busy with school and track, and now I can stay motivated here.

Thank you for great advice. Hope I have before and afters one day :3

Here's just some general tips:

- Drink lots of water. It's the world's cheapest, most efficient weight loss aid. Many hunger pangs are just your body's way of telling you its dehydrated, and lots of people eat when they should be drinking.

- Try to eat healthy between 3-6 times a day, so you feel like you're getting plenty of food. Go check to see how many calories you should be eating based on your weight, height, and activity level, then try to aim for just a bit lower than that in caloric intake. This allows you to lose weight without your body going into starvation mode and halting your progress.

- Don't deprive yourself of tasty stuff. :D Just be sure to eat it in moderation. Have one small piece of cake every once in awhile, so you don't have a binge and eat half a cake in one sitting.

- Try to get at least 3 half-hour sessions of cardio a week, and try some weight training. Each pound of muscle you add on through resistance training burns an extra 75 calories when you're just sitting around doing nothing!

Hope this helps a little. This forum is always here if you need help, advice, or just want to talk things out. Have fun and good luck!! :)

Hello there :) I'm glad you joined. Welcome!

First- Stop referring to any part of yourself as disgusting.

Sounds like you have really gotten some great advice here. But I suggest definately checking in here because it really helps to give you a good sounding board and support system.

Also, if you can have protein drinks in between meals, that could help. They are my life savers.

And definately drink lots of water :)

Most of all, just remember that if you eat something greasy or junky, you will feel it later, and the same goes with healthy food. You will feel food after you eat healthy food whereas if you eat junk you will have satisfied your craving, but it doesn't feel too great afterwards.

Good luck!

Britta

Aww, yeah I live off of water. Only once in a while I sip on diet coke. I just can't stop drinking it. It's so addicted.
Thanks a lot guys, this is really helping a lot.
