I'm going to keep the intro as short as possible to limit the wall of text people have to deal with as best I can.
I'm 6'2" and I've pretty much been overweight my whole life. As of 1/1/10 I weighed 299lbs (though my heaviest in the past was around 350) and my goal this year is to get to 200lbs by New Years Eve. I am currently 28 and just starting college (late bloomer). I seem to be having some difficulties and I came across this site and thought I could get some assistance!
I started the first couple weeks of the year by changing eating habits. I cut all sweets, fast food, and bad snacking. I dropped to 292 just before coming to school on 1/15, so far so good.
I started using the elliptical machines right away and I've gone from being able to do about 15 minutes on an elliptical to over 2 hours. I even watched the Super Bowl from the 2nd quarter on while cranking away on the elliptical instead of just sitting on my duff. I also try to use some of the weight machines, but to be honest I haven't been as diligent with that.
While I feel much stronger, and don't break into a sweat just looking at a flight of stairs anymore, I have been slowly gaining weight these last few weeks. I am currently at 296 and it's frustrating the crap out of me because I've been busting my butt at the gym. I started tracking my calories on 1/31 and I don't think I'm eating too many at all. Maybe I'm off base though.
According to the BMR calculator on this site my BMR is 2659.48. I've also been walking a lot more than normal in addition to my workouts (this is quite a large campus) including walking home from the gym each night which is an additional 1.5 miles. By that count I should be dropping lbs too fast I think, but I'm afraid to eat more because I don't want to start gaining even more. At the same time, I've noticed my calorie intake increasing some the last few days, in part because I have been extremely tired lately and I thought I might not be eating enough.
In addition, my numbers are so varied because I try to eat when I'm hungry and I also try to mix it up to confuse my body which I've heard is a helpful thing to do, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, are my mini goals reasonable goals at this point or should I be looking to restructure them?
