help me lose weight!

I've been working on weight loss for a year, and have gone down 3 sizes. I exercise almost daily (swimming, running, eliptical, weights) but have been at a plateau for about half a year now and I want to lose another 15- 20 pounds. I'm in college so it's difficult to control eating habits and such... any idea of what I can do differently? It's just so frustruating!

well first off you need to give your self a break, shouldnt do cardio more than 6 or 5 times a week, and are you doing weight training, muscle burns fat just excisting. also i dont see how you could be on a 6 month plateau...

Try changing up your exercise routines, eat 200 calories less a day (if you can manage because of your situation and control over your habits). Little changes can bust through plateaus.

If you really are on a plateau, you should try control eating habits too! Small things can keep you on a plateau for a long time, for example too much or less salt, not drinking enough water, medicines, etc. But, if you don't know exactly how much you are eating, what is your calories deficit, you can't know exactly you are on a plateau. Bring new foods in your nutrition also.

Yea, I try to control my eating habits, too. I drink probably 10-12 glasses of water a day, at least. I can only do so much with my eating habits because of the food served in the cafeteria. Basically cereal, salad, soup. I never really get meat. I guess I'll just have to do what I can.

Oh, and I guess it's not a total plateau the past 6 months. I mean, I lost another 5-10 pounds in the second half the year, it's just a very slow loss.

You cant make some food then take it with you in your school bag or something? Maybe make a natural peanut butter sandwhich with a banana or apple on the side theres all kinds of stuff you could make and take with you. Or is your food added into the college fee so you dont want to make your own?

plateau is when you reach a point where your muscles stop growing and you dont get any gains, can be frustrating i imagine, but the best way to get through one is to just change your routine every few weeks, they usually only last a few weeks, then you start gaining again.

If what you're doing isn't working, change something - whether it be your diet, exercise routine, or both.

Try lifting heavier weights and doing drop sets. Reduce your cardio, too - Grammaton's right on w/ that.

I assume you have a fridge and microwave in your dorm room? Get some oatmeal (not the kind that comes in packets - it's full of sugar), natural PB, 100% whole wheat bread, fruits, etc. It's crucial to have a good diet for weightloss and busting through a plateau.

When I was at UCONN, I worked in the dining halls for my work-study. The chefs were great (even in the super-large dining halls) and were very willing to make things on request. For example, during Lent (I give up meat), the chef would save fish for me and bake some everyday for me to eat. Another girl was crazy about her veggie-burgers, and another chef would gladly grill her one when she came in. Just go in the kitchen at a slow time during the day and talk to the chef. They're there to feed you and will accomodate different needs.

one of u just said something about medicines, can something like birth control cause u not to lose any weight?
It's only a rumor that the BC pill causes weight gain. When you first go on, it will cause some water retention, but nothing remarkable. However, the Depo-shot is known to cause significant weight gain in women. Your best bet is the pill, especially the ones w/ the lower dosages of hormones, like Yasmin and Ortho-Tri-Cylcen-Lo.
