Ok, I'm 40lbs over what I use to weigh. I know I was unhealthy before, so I'd like to lose 25lbs. I'm also breastfeeding a 2 month old with no intention on weaning for at least a year.

I tried watching carbs SBD style, but I couldn't get my cals over 1200 which is just not enough to nurse on. I tried watching cals, but I was always hungry on 1700, binged and blew it. According to the thing wonder woman posted, I need 2380 cals to nurse. I also spend way too much time on line when I should be playing with my little ones. But I have no friends here so if I don't talk to people on-line, I talk to no one. Not good when you are a very social person with PPD. I've also noticed I have mood swings related to sugar and bloating related to wheat. If I cut those out, that should take care of most of the junk any way.

So, here are my choices:

#1 - low carb while getting 120 carbs(min. 95-100 reccommend while nursing) and uping the cals Atkins style i.e. bacon, sausage, etc.

#2- watch my cals but try to limit to 2000 and see how that works and go from there

#3- Record a journal and eat normal for a week, then reduce by 300 cals a day

#4- Quit trying to lose weight, get my butt off line and eat how I please, I can focus on weight loss next year. (although I may be pregnant again)

#5- Stay on-line, less frequently and cut out wheat and sugar

Sara, since you have a brand new baby, maybe on the really nice days, go for a walk or if you have stairs in you house, walk up and down the stairs when the baby is asleep. I don't think that cutting any nutrients out of your diet would do either you or the baby any good. Drink lots of fat free milk and eat healty. I think maybe you should give up "junk" food...(easier said then done) and snack on veggies, fruit or plain popcorn. I'm a borderline diabetic so I have to stick to a low carb diet and have found that carrots and peas are loaded with sugar. Try to find foods that you enjoy but don't give you a sugar rush. I had a very hard time finding foods that I could enjoy until I went to Curves 6 week Solution. They supplied me with an awesome list and even some of the foods that I didn't like was substiuted with foods that I liked. Don't deprive your body of nutrients especially when you are breastfeeding. I hope this helps somewhat. :)

Thanks for replying. We have no stairs in the apt. and it's too cold for the baby outside. I can't wait for it to warm up and I can go outside.

wow sara, what a tough choice! I seriously would like to see you ask your doctors 2 cents on the matter. I dotn' think you are "supposed" to be loosing weight while breastfeeding??

You DO need "me" time, so I wouldn't want to see you leave us. I mean, youll go crazy not having anyone to talk to :)

I agree. I'd check with your doctor. Perhaps get a referall to a nutrioinist /dietician to figure out what exactly is necessary for your own health and breastfeeding. :)

Wait, you don't mean that you might be pregnant now do you? If so, then the answer is simple. Eat healthy and don't try to be losing weight! Of course since your nursing I thing that really is the answer either way. A healthy balanced diet is really your number one issue at this point. I agree. Talk to your doctor for the best advice!

hey sara, if you are feeling lonely, why not seek out some playgroups? great for your baby and great for you. you could also look into community exercise places where you can exercise with your baby (like yoga - i went to a class like that once, my baby loved it) or they might have a creche.

Nope, not preggo. Better not be, she'll only be 10 weeks on Friday.

No play groups around here. I live in a small town that's actually classified as a village. Hoping to start my own in Sept.

Hi, Sara! I am not a nutritionist, but I would suggest eating as healthy as possible - a lot of veggies, whole grains with fiber and lean proteins. Stay away from bacon and sausage in large amounts, as they are full of fat. You need nutrition to give to the baby. Stay as active as you can given the circumstances, and watch your calories but don't limit yourself if you are truly hungry, but don't eat food, especially junk food just because it is insight or because you feel like you need to munch on something. Your goal right now is to provide as much nutrition as possible for the baby.
I would say, use choices 2 or 3, but don't set rigid rules, see how you feel. And don't make loosing weight your first priority this year.

Hi Sara, I would go see your doctor, if that doesnt work out (I know small town it can be hard to get a good one) try researching online about the amount you want to be eating when breastfeeding. You need to have the right amount of caleries and the good foods to be passing on the best quality of milk to your baby. When I was feeding my kids whenever I tried to diet it would affect my milk supply and they would be crying and cranky more and feeding more frequently because the supply wasnt the same quality. My girlfriend is feeding at the moment and trying to lose weight and she sits on the 2000 mark and is doing ok on that everyone is different. But you really need to get some profesional advice on what to be eating and the amounts.
Good luck and I wish you the best.

According to the site wonder woman posted, I need 2380 to maintain. That sounds reasonable. That's why I picked 2000.
