Help getting cut

hey everyone,

i've been out of shape for quite some time now.
i just started running the treadmill for about 2 weeks now, but i also want to start on some weight training. I have a fair amount of fat on my arms and legs. i was wondering how i would go about gaining some cuts in those areas.
Someone told me that low weights and high reps would help in my case. is that true?

Its not true.

To get lean you need a good balance of a soild meal plan, weight training and cardio.

Weight training should be used to maintain and/or build muscle while losing weight. In which case you should be using relatively heavy loads. For instance, 6-12rep range. These reps should also be taxing and hard to complete.

Keep in mind that your diet is pretty damn important, you can't spot reduce on just your arms and legs. For example, in the past, I've lost a significant amount of weight but built muscle - doing low reps. But I've also gained 40 pounds of muscle doing low reps and heavy weight, so it's all about the food.

Do you go to a gym or what kind of equipment do you have? how much time do you have? do you do anything in terms of weight training yet either?

I have a bench with the big straight bar, and the EZ bar (curved one), it has a piece at the end for the legs. I usually all day so time isn't an issue and i haven't done ne weight training yet. Been a while since i have.
