Help! Balance muscle gain and tone??

I've had this question for a long time - how do I best balance acheiving AND keeping a muscular body but enough cardio at the same time to keep my definition?

I hear about people lifting heavy with very or little cardio and then "cutting" in the summer months, but I'm not looking for that. I don't want to be "huge", just muscular, and defined. Is it best to alternate days, where I only do one or the other each day? Or heavy weights with a light cardio every day and 2 or so times a week ONLY cardio? Thanks a lot.
 
You'd need to be gaining muscle while maintaining body fat or even lowering your BF%.

Just keep your surplus to 200-300. Cycle your carbs, and find a good balance of cardio for you.

If you see you are losing your definition, lower your carbs or hit the cardio harder.
 
thanks....if it matters, i'm already in pretty good "summer/beach shape"...I'd just like to add mass but that has been tough because I do a lot of cardio to maintain that body type. I do both on the same day, don't want to cut down too much on cardio cuz i'd be afraid to start losing my definition? Am I right to think this?
