Hello

I'm new to the forums, have been lurking a bit, and decided to join. What I like about this site, is it has something for everyone.

I enjoy a lot of different sports, and also have been weight lifting for three years. I just set up a journal here (essgirl's journal, I know, very creative :D) so please feel free to drop in, offer advice, comments, feedback. I plan to log my workouts, and they will usually be with a focus on weight lifting, although I've been a runner and cyclist for a number of years.

I have been playing around with the idea of running a 1/2 marathon next year, have done a few short races, but nothing that ambitious. I'd have to find a good balance with my lifting if I were to choose that, because I'd have to really up my running game.

Nice to meet you! :action11: (I like your selection of smilies here lol)

1/2 marathon is no problem. It is the longest almost totally safe distance, you have to be seriously out of shape to die doing one. So your target there is smart, marathon is different, I used to do them and saw ambulances taking people away who wouldn't come back, crossing 18 miles is a big deal so over 26 is huge.
It is difficult improving lifting and distance running at the same time, I am working hard to keep running consistent as I am currently gaining weight. It isn't impossible but you need to keep in mind gains on both will be slow and you will find times when one gains and the other loses for a while.
Nice to have someone else doing the non-complimentary style of training. I tend to describe trying to be fit in all areas as stupid or arrogant, but I love doing it.

That's very true, agree about it becoming a challenge to train with running and increase in strength with weight lifting. I've been a runner for a while and if I train for a 1/2 marathon, it will get time consuming. I've been seeing some nice gains with lifting so don't want to slow down there. Appreciate the feedback and thanks for the welcome! This looks like a cool site without all the bad behaviors of other "fitness" sites I've seen. We won't go there, though. :D
