I was very excited when I discovered this forum! I think it will be of great help in accomplishing my goal of toning up. I have many questions regarding nutrition, weight training, etc. Looking forward to receiving and providing advice!

Right now I do a spin class twice a week, and run once a week for cardio. For strength, I am actually hooked on a muscle confusion (barbells/free weights) class at the local ymca. I would love to get out on my own with free weights, but I find it a bit intimidating since I don't know enough about routine. Which is why I found this forum. :)

I don't really think that the 'muscle confusion' thing really holds any weight - it's really just a buzzword that was created to seel products. Not to say that the classes are bad, just saying don't get caught up with gimmicks. Most people feel the same way that you do when first entering a gym to try free weights on their own. Is there a class or supervised group at your ymca that helps you put together a program, or are there trainers available to help you?
