Hello!!

Hello everyone,

I am Amos (32, male). I will describe my fitness level as average. For the past 6 years, I have been doing half marathons (marathon once) every fall (I train for about 3 months). The rest of the year – I go to the gym and do various things. Lately I have been doing two classes at the gym (YMCA) – a steps class and a circuit type of class. Occasionally, I also attend yoga classes which I like a lot. Sometimes, I run.

I got married a couple of years ago and since then I have put on about 15 lbs weight (and also a layer of fat around my guts). I am working out somewhat less but in general eating better. I would say we eat fairly healthy but we also go out to eat about once a week and a lot of our cooking is heavy on carbohydrates.

I am hoping to kick start a better regimen, which is not dramatically different from my current lifestyle but build around more exercise and healthier eating.

My goals are:
  • Stay uninjured (measure – body aches and pain) – especially keep my lower back strong (it has been a source of chronic pain)
  • Increase my flexibility (measure – performance in yoga class)
  • Increase cardio-health (measure – time and effort for 5k and 10k distances)
  • Loose weight - (goal – 15 lbs eventually) – especially belly fat where I will also be fighting my genes
  • Better looking body

Path:
  • Exercise more regularly – combination of cardio and weight training and yoga
  • Eat more healthy – portion control, more protein, less calories

Hurdles/Weaknesses:
  • Binge eating / Over eating (my biggest problem)
  • Discipline with exercising
  • Eating out during business travel

I hope to share my progress with you and draw motivation from your stories. I am particularly keen on learning how to stay disciplined and motivated. Also more about healthier options for snacks and desserts etc.

Thanks.
Amos

Nice business plan there amos, let me guess, you're a consultant? haha, you forgot the SWAT analysis though :D

What kind of training are you planning on doing? What are your starting stats etc..?

Welcome to the forum and it's good to see you've already put some thought into a plan of action

You have your goals in place and you have identified weaknesses and obstacles - great :) This should help you step forward!

Keep a diary in the journal section so we can see your progress!

Thanks Guys!!

Typhon, I am not a consultant but I admit I do business planning as a part of my job :) and apply the same principles in my life (to endless annoyance of my wife). Hopefully, I can achieve similar success in these goals too.

I am keeping a log of my workouts and weight. I was thinking of also keeping track of what I eat but that turned out to be too much burden. As I said earlier, in general I eat pretty healthy – but at times I do cave in to my cravings.

I weight 170 lbs and my goal is to cut back to 155. That should bring my BMI under 25 (I am 5’7”). Ideally, I would like to get to 150 but I haven’t weight that in the last 10 years, so that looks difficult.
