Hi-
I joined this forum for advice, tips, recipes and encouragement. I recently started replacing two meals (breakfast/lunch) with shakes that my wife makes, which consist of strawberries, bananas, yogurt, spinach and soy milk and I have to admit I love them! Here's my routine, shake in the am about 7:30ish, at 10ish I have a bowl/pack of oatmeal with almonds and around noon an apple or more almonds and about 1:30ish I have another shake. Then when I get home about 6ish I have dinner, just one serving, I've been doing this for 4 days now. I need to see if what I'm doing is going to get me results, I know there's more to it than just shakes but I need to know that if at least I'm on the right path.

I'm a 43 year old male, my height is 5'10 and my weight is 331lbs, the reason why I want to lose weight is for myself/health. So I've set a goal for myself of losing 10 pounds and once that goal is reached I'll shoot for another 10 lbs.

Any input I can get from this forum will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hey bud. Good luck with your program! I'm on a similar trek. I've been doing breakfast with yogurt and berries or chicken and veggies, a sandwich or chicken and veggies for lunch and trying to eat a sensible dinner, plus working out. My doctor said to increase fish so I've been eating sardines, sprats or smoked oysters every day. Garlic too. Now I need to increase raw veggies for my cholesterol. I'm 6'2", 285 lbs. and I like a nice low impact exercise like bicycling. Plus, since we're big guys, we have strong legs, biking is perfect.

See ya dude.

Welcome to the forum.

Your food certainly sounds like it is full of healthy stuff and you are clearly enjoying it so that is great. I assume that you have put the data into a calorie calculator (I use a free account from www.fitday.com) to ensure that the quantities etc that you are having are at the appropriate calorie level to give you the weight loss that you are looking for... We can overeat with healthy food just as easily as we can with unhealthy food.

I notice that you do not mention exercise or becoming more active... Although it is perfectly possible to lose weight without becoming more active - exercise is the other side of the calorie balance equation - and will benefit your weight loss (and indeed subsequent weight control) project.

You can kick off your exercise with simple walking to build your stamina or move on to something more adventurous... You do not need to join a gym or a class - but some people find that it helps...

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends here

Good luck with your project.

A tip I have found that helps me lose weight is have meals planned for the week. I found myself gaining weight when we didnt know what we were going to eat and therefore either get a takeaway or a not very sensible but easy option such as bread/sandwich etc.

I also make sure when we cook something there's enough left over to fix up at least one more meal. For example, when my wife roasted some vegetable in the oven the other day for our dinner we had it with chicken that evening and the following day there was enough left over to have with pasta or couscous - that way you're not stuck.
