Hello!

Welcome,
You've made great progress by wanting to change and starting to exercise. I look forward to reading your progress as time flys by.
You do sound like your struggling to find eating habits that suit you. You need to be happy with it to Keep at it. If you can maybe see a nutritionist or dietitian as they are great and providing information and meal plans that work for you and what you like eating.

Welcome to the forum.

Well done for recognising the problem (it is really easy to ignore negative things about ourselves and not face up to them) and for deciding to do something about it... While you may feel big - a lot of us have been a lot bigger - so you can certainly turn things around and go from chubby to healthy sized...

You certainly do not need to go without food for a long time and give yourself heartburn in order to lose weight... I never did it once in the time that it took me to lose quite literally half my weight... You may be interested to know that the idea of eating lots of little meals being a good idea has been proved to be a diet myth and does not actually have a bearing on weight loss... It is all down to calories in vs calories out... Some people find that eating lots of little meals help them not to snack between meals so it helps them stay within their calorie total for the day... other people find that it does not help them at all... that is all it boils down to... it is just as good to have all your food in one meal all together as it is to spread it across 10 tiny meals... some people would prefer to go one way and some people would prefer another way... it is the total calories for the day (and indeed week) that counts...

It helps to eat healthy food (at the right total calorie level) and it helps to do exercise... It is great that you are exercising... In my experience - our exercise becomes more intense naturally if we just keep on at it and try to push ourselves so that we feel we have worked hard... I started with slow walking (I was a lot bigger than you) and found that if I focused on increasing the distance as soon as I could - I ended up not only walking further than I imagined possible but that I automatically speeded up and was going a lot faster...

The most important thing is that you believe in yourself and the fact that you can make your weight loss dreams come true... Avoid the bullies if you can - and do not let them take your success from you... You could always end up fitter than them... I well remember having nasty people make nasty comments about my size in the street... It took time - but I am a lot fitter than they were now... In fact I am fitter than not only most people my age - but a lot of people half my age...

You can do it.

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends

Good luck with your project.

Everyone has little set-backs... that is only human and something that we are wise to learn to forgive ourselves for... for many years a set-back like that would cause me to abandon the whole notion of losing weight... it really just put me into a loop of gaining some weight / losing some of it / gaining what I had lost and some more etc etc...

We have to learn that everyone's weight fluctuates to a certain extent (even people who are always thin) and that everyone has times that they splurge a little compared to what is normal for then - then the wise action is to get back to normal sensible eating and exercise patterns that put things back on track...

A little splurge gets sorted out if we choose to not allow it to grow into a big splurge...

You are being very sensible in sorting out your weight at your age... I didnt get mine sorted out until I was in my late 40s and often wish that I had sorted it out many many years ago... I just got myself into one of those loops...
Don't give up - no matter how many set backs you have... Just resolve not to allow them to turn into big set backs and you will be where you want to be in no time...
