Hello everyone my name is Jimmy. I'm 26 years old, 6'1", and weigh 315 lbs. According to the CDC that puts me in the obese category although I never really saw myself as that. I work a tough manual labor job where I am constantly lifting and carrying heavy loads but at a slow pace with next to no cardio in my life. When I'm not working I'm fairly sedentary usually sticking to sitting at the computer mindlessly. I tried dieting/working out a few years ago without any support and I did fairly well for a while. I lost 45 lbs in about 2 and a half months. After that I got put on a shift where I was working 12 hours 5 days a week and just didn't have time to work out any more. At least that's the excuse I have to myself. I want to give it another go but this time hopefully with a little more support or at least a little less temptation heh. The last time I attempted this I was living with my mom and older brother who both constantly brought/cooked unhealthy food into the house. I find it difficult to turn down wings, fries, and Texas toast from zaxbys heh. I'd say my major weakness is soft drinks. I have them up for the time I was working out before but it was a daily struggle not to drink them. Especially when I'd see my mom poring herself a dr pepper :). I have a treadmill ordered (it was my main source of cardio before) and I plan on starting working out as soon as it arrives probably next week. In the mean time I'm preparing myself by quitting soft drinks today. Anyone that consumes excessive caffeine then quits cold turkey knows that means days of headaches, tiredness, and bad tempers! Hopefully ill be over it by the time the treadmill gets here. At any rate wish me luck and good luck to all of you too!

Welcome to the forum.

Good luck with your project.

I know that all the experts say that soft drinks are bad for you. There's no denying that they are full of all sorts of additives that are not really good for us and we would all be better off drinking water...

That is a bit tough for me... I certainly turned around my way of life - but there are some areas where I think that we can allow ourselves a little middle ground...

For me - a little diet cola does very little harm - but in my case I make sure that I have 2.5 litres of water a day. If I have my water I feel that I deserve the diet cola... I have my water at a level that means that I do not have room for too much diet cola.

With the soft drinks being of the "diet" type they are not adding calories worth worrying about... The fact that I allow myself some means that I do not end up feeling deprived.

I often think that the notion of expecting ourselves to be perfect is a hard idea to live up to... I would rather be a manageable pretty good.

If the cold turkey turns out too tough - it may be worth asking yourself if you can find a healthier middle ground that would work for you.

I don't have as much problem with not drinking sodas now that I'm living by myself I still crave the caffeine though but that will go away with time.
