Hiya Nathan.

My first suggestion would be identifying where you went wrong on all your other attempts. If you keep trying the same darn thing, it's like a fly trying to get out a closed window. He'll smack his face against that stubborn glass until he eventually dies, never making any real progress.

The good thing is, you don't fail until you stop trying. The important lesson is, things won't always go as planned. These are the best times to learn what not to do and modify your approach.

This is always, no matter how experienced you are, a touch & feel process.

I wish you the best. I suggest checking out the stickies at the tops of the various sub forums as they're loaded with useful advice.

I suppose the main thing is when going out for meals or holidays? it ruins you diet then you get down about it.

A huge pitfall is the "all or nothing" mentality. People tend to see things in extreme black and white. The problem is, most of life takes place somewhere in between.

But whenever the "in between" happens... they're either completely on or completely off.

You can be on for a week but if you slip once on the weekend and let that spiral into being completely off for the next 2-3 days... it's very easy to reverse any progress or worse, lose ground.

Terms that get flung around like candy nowadays that should be taken beyond seriously are:

Moderation
Consistency
Managing expectations
Avoiding perfectionism
Lifestyle

The list goes on. Common sense tells us losing weight is predominantly about expending more energy (calories) than we consume. There's a pile of crap revolving around that concept but at the heart of weight loss, there's a calorie deficit.

The moment you rid yourself of the idea that this is a diet is the moment you take your first step toward success.

Losing weight and keeping it off is a product of making a lifelong commitment to being different than how your currently are. Most get overwhelmed by that idea... but the fact is doing this simply entails making what seems like small, insignificant choices that correspond to weight management each day.
