Hi people. :)

I'm new here, obviously.. and I wanted to just share a little bit about myself and comment on this site some.

I'm 23 years old, male.. 6'3" 225 pounds, large frame. I've never commited to a serious diet in my life as of yet, but now that I have moved out of my parents house and live alone I'd really like to try to. I have a job with consistant hours (5AM-1:30PM Wed-Sun) now, which makes working out a lot easier to schedule around it.. and living alone has its advantages, because now I have complete control over what food I buy.

To be honest, I've already lost quite a bit of weigt since I was in HS. The last check up I had with my doctor was a bit suprising, he mentioned my senior year in HS I clocked in at 6'1" 270, so I had gradually lost weight over time by hardly dieting and hardly working out.

Between then and now there were three main things I did that made me cut weight gradually. First off every sunday me and my friends would play basketball at a park, but that faded away around the time I started working since I couldn't stay up as late as them anymore. But what did start when I started working was the second thing: I now ride my bike to and from work every day. I purposely take off a bit late in the morning to work to make me rush (ends up being 7-10 mins depending on how I feel) and I always get that post-work energy on my way home making that trip about the same speed.

The third thing I did, which I think made the biggest difference thus far, is cut what I like to call "useless food" out of my diet. Things like chips, candy, soda, cake, doughnuts, >>fast food<<, etc. Though, some of those things are still very much a weakness for me, and I probably wouldn't be able to resist it long if it were in my house. But I think what's more important is I felt like complete crap whenever I'd break down and eat the above things...

But enough about the past. I recently applied to be a correctional officier, and passed both the physical and written tests. I was actually "disqualified" due to me not having a full year history of wearing contact lenses. In november I'm able to re-apply and my test scores stand for one year so I get to start basically at the academy stage. I know it may sound strange to some people, but I believe everything happens for a reason.. and I think that I might not have quite been ready for the acedemy yet, not having done much running for a few years.

So, I have two goals in one.. As of 7-6 jump diving head first into a diet/workout I've came up with from reading tons of different websites and books. My diet will be laid out to lose around 2lbs per week, but I'm only aiming to lose 1.5 per week for the next 20 weeks (Goal= 195). And I'm doing it the old fashoned way, a solid diet and excersize mix. The diet and cardio will be the real backbone of it, the muscle building tactics that I'm going to use are questionable (But I'm going to post this in another forum to get feedback)

The main thing I like about this forum is that it seems to focus on "keeping it real" so to speak. There's so many ads for diet pills and gimic workouts on the net that have stuff like "Lost 50 lbs in 2 weeks!", every time I see something like that I automatically dismiss it as completly worthless.. And since garbage like that makes up 90% of the net, its really hard to find legitamate good sites like this one. As you can see from above I love to type, I've been lurking the forums a day now, and I think its awesome. :)

I'll still be looking around seeing if there's any similar stories to mine, and looking over tips the people in question were given. Soon I'll post my whole plan. So far what I have seen has been a really good experience, and thanks for letting me come into your community. :D
