Hi, I"m new to the forum. I'm 22 years old, a full time grad student in Nashville, Tennessee... I'm here trying to get motivated and organized so that I can loose some weight and hopefully look better by the time I go to hawaii in March =) but more than that, i want to build a routine i can stick to, be healthier, and have more energy. I also want shopping for clothes to be fun, which is sometimes hard when the really cute clothes of the season are all made for much smaller bodies.

I'm studying to be a minister/theologian, I have a boyfriend (of five years), and I love to cook. Vegetables are my friend, and I have found that now i'm living on my own and i'm out of the dorms from undergrad, I can finally cook the delicious and healthy foods i want to!

Welcome! I look forward to seeing more of your posts. The easiest way for us to help is by posting what you currently do / eat right now, and we can help with suggestions. Oh, and congrats w/ the 5 yrs w/ the guy ... that's rare for someone your age.

I have a hard time sticking to routines, but last semester I did an ab and leg workout about every other morning, and i started jumping rope for about two weeks, and then the holidays came and i didn't make the time... As far as food, I try to eat healthy - which for me means lots of balanced nutrition. I could never do the atkins diet, b/c i love bread and pasta... but i always pair them with lots of vegetables and try to stick to whole grains as much as possible. I'm not a vegetarian, but i only eat meat at about half of my meals... it's just cheaper that way as a student. I come from a family of big eaters, but in the last few months I have been better about eating in moderation, and I think having a 4 or 5 meals spaced out over the day would help alot with that.

I could use suggestions for some good small meals for the mid afternoon... I like yougurt and fruit, and if you had ideas about some snack bars to pick up that would be wonderful. I'm usually on the go in the afternons and dont' have time for much.

if you can, i would definately get back into jump-rope ... it's right at the top of the list for best exercises, both cardio and muscular endurance. As for food, i always try to get the enough protein as meat is fairly expensive, so i throw in some protein with my yogurt ... it may not be for you, but it does help.
As for snacks, unsalted peanuts, fruits, peanut-butter sandwich (real-peanut butter, not Jiff), muffins, rice cakes (not very filling, but something to chew on) ... always drink water, it fills you up some and can minimize your hunger ... sometimes you feel hungry when you are really just thirsty ... and besides ... it's good for you.

Just wanted to say hello and good luck to you. I'm 20, I also just moved out "on my own" and have a boyfriend of 4 years. Just saw that we had some things in common, so I thought I'd post them. :) I always think it's nice to knowthat people are in the same boat as you. Best of luck to you!

Hi there,
wanted to say hi too! I'm a bit older (almost 30) but a nice welcome doesn't hurt! I just bought some Weight watchers musli bars and all though I don't like everything from them, these are really nice and filling!
