hi ive been lurking around this forum for a few days and it seems one of the best ive found, lots of sensible advice and support. im 42 yrs old from the uk. as an adult my weight has yoyoed from around 7 and a half stone (im5ft 1) to just under 16 stone - 222lbs:eek: i have tried a few- calorie counting, even atkins(made me feel ill), but have fallen by the wayside each time.
2007 will be the year that i have changed my eating habits for good(got to be positive).i am an emotional eater, mainly crisps, savouries etc. so far i have not let this get to me. i am following a healthy diet/calorie counting with the support of my surgery and get weighed there once a month. i started at the beginning of the year and have lost 21lbs. i was wearing uk sizes 22/24, but am now fitting into 20`s.
i would like to get down to about 8 and a half stone, but have made myself mini goals of 5 and 10%`s of my body weight.i have 1lb to go before i hit my first 10% and already i feel better than i did. the things i need to work on are increasing my water intake(i am drinking more than i used to) and my exercise.i am going for more brisk walks and doing some aerobics a couple times a week, but am not always as motivated as i should be. i am also terrified of the old saggy skin bit. when i lost a lot of weight in my twenties everything "sprung" back. i fear it wont this time.
anyway enough of my ramblings,slim

Hi slim- welcome to the forum. 21 pounds so far is awesome! Mini goals are a great way to not let yourself get discouraged. Good luck! :)

thanks for your welcome. :) i will have a nosy round some of the challenges. i think if you have some encouragement/motivation it really helps, especially during these long, cold winter months. i am going on holiday in june and would love to have lost enough to be confident enough to wear a swimming costume so i can take my kids swimming, slim

We are the same age!. You can do it. Make water your best friend. (I drink cold herbal tea too). It has cured me of my cravings for sugary and fried foods.
Start a diary and ask the experts (Harsh Truth) to help you with your food plan if you like.

thanks Happychubette. i am trying with the water. i am a diet coke addict which doesnt help. i dont want to completely give them up but i find that already i am reaching for the bottles of water rather than the coke at times when i go to the shop. i like herbal teas, but do need to drink them with a little sweetner.as for posting on the harsh truth, i need to get up my courage first. i dont think my diet is too bad but my exercise is comparatively poor(walking/some cardio). i am in the process of trying to find a gym that is local and doesn`t cost the earth as i am on a tight budget.cheers, slim

diet

Well, exercise is very good for you but I've heard that losing weight is 80% diet and what you're doing sounds great. It'll happen.

yippee, i think i found a gym. basic membership seems quite reasonable and is within walking distance. ill check it out when the kids go back to school. i know its mainly about diet but a - it will give me a reason not to laze around the house all day and b- im flabby(cos i walk a lot my legs arnt too bad, but the rest is heading due south:eek: ), slim
