I started noticing my weight at 13 and from 13 to 17 I was going through a depression. Right now I have lost half of the weight I needed to shed due to while depressed I didn't eat (or drink) any fast food, frozen desserts (except frozen yoghurt on special occasions such as birthdays) and soft drinks, was busy and active due to school work (I flunked and had to repeat my grade... I just finished repeating it and moving on to university in 2 years) and my family always brought me out to be more social with them through sports and accompanying to the gym (while also seeing a psychologist).

My mother in the last few years has grown to love healthy foods (,tea and vitamin supplements) and she made all of the plates for me at home and when we were out she would order my plate and the drinks for me. During this time I only took water, fruit juices, tea, vegetable salads, spaghetti, rice, meat, fish, fruit, yoghurt, skim milk, cereal, eggs, etc. At the end of 15 is where I started seeing the psychologist and stopped eating fast food.

In the end after staying 1 year without eating fast food at all (or drinking soft drinks) I ate fast food 1 year later and basically puked them (when I turned 17 I ate it for the first time in a year). I could actually feel and taste the unhealthiness and artificiality in the foods and the sugars and processes in the drinks. No joke. It was like I went through a complete system renovation.

And here I am. I'm almost 18 and I'm going to kill the last extra kilos I need to shed off. It's been 1 year and I have little desire whatsoever for fast food except on rare occasions (birthdays, etc). In the last few months I tried to eat pizzas, hamburgers, fat and sugary ice creams, chips, soft drinks and the works. I have gone to fast food restaurants and grocery stores and ordered the fast food and the drinks. I don't puke anymore but I still have that strong nauseating feeling and every time I eat and drink them I feel unfulfilled. I guess I'm different. I can feel the artificiality (and unhealthiness) in most of them. I don't like the excess sugars and right now no matter how hard I try my palate tends to reject most them. I can eat some chips but it has to be ''natural brand'' (the same with the pizzas and hamburgers) and on rare occasions.

Fast food and soft drinks look ''good'' on the outside but on the inside I have little desire for them. And the appeal of the outward appearance is starting to wear off as well. If the food is too oily and fake I just can't eat them. If it's too artificial I just can't eat them. My desire for them is hitting low and lower.

Right now my nutrition is as follows and has been for the last 2 years (I don't write anything down and it's turned into a full blown habit for healthy foods).

Breakfast --- Healthy cereal/Eggs/Skim milk/Natural or healthy Yoghurt/whole wheat bread
Lunch --- Meat/Fish with rice, spaghetti, etc
Dinner --- Sometimes the same thing as lunch
Entree --- Vegetable salads and whole wheat bread
Drink --- Tea, fruit juices (from the blender and from the grocery store) and water
Dessert --- On occasion/rare: Frozen yoghurt and naturally made ice cream (I bought an ice cream machine), Cream (usually made from the blender) and homemade biscuits and homemade cakes but the usual: fruit

Snacks --- Salads, wheat biscuits, fruit, fruit juices, yoghurt, etc
My favourite oils are extra virgin olive oil, sometimes vinegar and other things
I love spices (particularly on salads or in cooking)

I am going to write here once per week or so my adventures in losing the last few kilos (usually exercise but a few times nutrition).

Note: Depression occured due to weight loss obsession, lack of being social (I was always the ''ugly duckling'' due to the fact that when I was 6 I lost the front tooth and until 15 it never grew... when it started growing I was told to stop eating damaging substances such as chocolate and whichever), suicidal tendencies, upbringing conflicts and adolescent rebellion.

Also I don't recommend going 1 year without fast food if you can't do it (right now I'm 2 years without fast food). While the effects are good I don't think a person can pull it off unless by other factors (stress, depression, grow of tooth, etc). This is one of the only good things to come out of my depression. It forced me through a complete body cleansing (which has lowered greatly the desire for fast food, soft drinks, fat/sugary ice cream and the whole lot).

All in all my nutrition is settled. I don't need nor want fast food and soft drinks much (rarely). All I need now is to do a (personal) exercise routine. I stopped it almost a year ago. I'm going to start in the next few weeks.
